1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Thanks to these sierra hotel persons/organisations:

- Jean-Luc Barbera of France, for the French
translation of the Disclaimer. (After all, Canada's
official languages are English and French.) He also
completed this game earlier than me.
- Take of Japan, for his detailed [el] solution on
which this FAQ is based.

2. NUTRITION INFORMATION (Introduction)

Title: [el] (Japanese title: Eru)
Genre: Sci-fi adventure
Rating: Adult (Keep out of reach of children and parents)
OS: Windows 95/98/2000 Professional/Millennium
Edition (Japanese version)
Brand: elf
On Sale: 29 September 2000

2.1 1ST IMPRESSION

The player can install [el] as one of three sizes: 300 MB, 420 MB, or 600
MB.
(IIRC, I chose 420 MB, but [el] squats on only 377 MB.)

The [el] male protagonist's name can be five characters long. Each
character can be an alphabet, hiragana, kanji, katakana, number, or symbol.
Seems the player can't change the protagonist's default family name of
Takanaka.
(I'm not an "honmei play" player. That is, I don't play with my real
name.
In games where the other characters have hiragana or kanji names, I
sometimes give a protagonist a katakana name, to easier spot his name in the
message window. Because the other [el] characters have katakana names, I
give the [el] protagonist a two-kanji name, Hayato. Not named after the
protagonist of Shinseiki GPX Cyber Formula, but named after the protagonist
of Sotsugyou Crossworld (for PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and Windows). On
second thought, I could've chosen Kyousuke, named after the protagonist of
Kimagure Orange Road.
On third thought, five characters are too short for the classical name
Hugh
G Rection.)

Each scene in [el] is full-screen, not structurally divided into message
windows and multiple-choice windows. Such windows, when present, superimpose
onto the scene.
In a given scene, for instance, the first scene where the protagonist
meets
all his comrades, the other characters are all drawn into scene, not just
superimposed onto a generic background illust. Also, the other characters
blink and may change expressions depending on their dialogue.
The pointer changes appearance to represent different commands depending
on
what it's pointing. For instance, when it's on an item or person, the
pointer is normally in Look/Investigate mode. When it's on a person's mouth,
the pointer changes to Speak mode. When the player clicks the pointer, the
protagonist looks at that item or person, or speaks with that person.
(Reminds me of Cobra Mission and Dragon Knight 4.)

[el] is apparently full-voice. (^_^)
(Actually, the protagonist isn't voiced.)

[el] has five save game slots. Each save game slot conveniently shows, at
1/4 screen size, the scene where the player saved that game.

3. BASIC COMMANDS

(Note: This section is incomplete.)

Hanasu Speak, by moving the pointer to
a person's mouth. (White Pacman
with hair.)
Miru/Shiraberu Look/Investigate. (Magnifying
glass with blinking eye.)

Soto ni deru Go outside, by moving the
pointer to the bottom edge of
the screen, or right-mouse-
button. (Green walking
humanoid.)
Hoka no basho ni Go elsewhere, by moving the
iku pointer to the bottom edge of
the screen, or right-mouse-
button. (Green walking

(After this, when the protagonist enters Room 702 @
Sky Village, Nurse Kana also goes there to offer the
protagonist, eh, some interaction (see below).
The protagonist apparently doesn't have a cell
phone.)

- Centre Street, Inside 1991

Hanasu: Master Jose. <2 times>

(Chris isn't at 1991 or Room 202 @ Sky Village. BTW,
my protagonist's trying to avoid entering Room 702 @ Sky
Village, and to delay his interaction with Nurse Kana to
after his interaction with Chris.)

- Centre Street, Inside Matarou

Hanasu: Yan. <2 times>

- Media Centre, 1F Lobby

(Optional: The protagonist can speak with the women at the Information
Centre Counter (1 time), or speak with the green-haired woman (3 times).)

- Media Centre, 3F Vision Centre

(The protagonist first encounters a woman wearing a
kimono, Reiko.
Unless you want to hear Reiko speak as the
protagonist examines her and the items in the screen, I
don't think he needs to examine her and the items in the
screen.)

Miru/Shiraberu: Hand. <2 times>

Hanasu: Reiko. <4 times>

(At least she's more humble than the Reiko in GS
Mikami or Sotsugyou I/Crossworld/Vacation.)

- Media Centre, 4F Social Report Co, Data Room

(Log on and read about Reiko.
I'm suspecting one or more of the heroines are traitors and
Black Widow members.)

- Sway Bounds, Outside

Osu/Hiku: Number pad.
Hanasu: Guard. <2 times>

4.2 EVENT 2

(The protagonist's scheduled to meet Bicks in
the Anteroom to advance the story, but seems this doesn't
happen unless the protagonist's interacted with Nurse
Kana. D_mn.)

- Sky Village, Room 702, Outside

Akeru: Door.

- Sky Village, Room 702, Inside

(Unless you want to hear Nurse Kana speak as the
gigolo, eh, I mean the protagonist examines her and the
items in his apartment, such as the audio equipment
behind her, I don't think he needs to examine her and the
items in his apartment.)

Linda isn't at Social Report Co. Rucca isn't at the
Meeting Room.)

4.3 EVENT 3

(I don't think the protagonist can further delay
this event.
OTOH, some months ago, the first (and only) time I
played Ragna Police for WIN98J by Air Plants, which
coincidentally is also a sci-fi adventure game where the
protagonist is an active-duty police officer, my
protagonist finished the game, and got Princess
Josephine's ending CG, without any Ecchi event! Just when
I thought it was really a non-Ecchi game... some bug in
the CG review mode allowed me to disclose and admire all
the Ecchi event CG.
To quote an ancient Canadian proverb: "It's too good
to be true! Oh, it isn't.")

- Media Centre, 3F Vision Centre

????: Door, left of vending machine.

- Media Centre, 3F Vision Centre, Inside Studio

Warau (right-mouse-button).
Hanasu: Paseri. <3 times>

(Examine the persons and items in the studio until the protagonist
speaks with Paseri and the bandit doesn't repeat his line.
One of these actions works.)

Miru/Shiraberu: Camera. <2 times>
Miru/Shiraberu: Paseri's foot. <2 times>
Miru/Shiraberu: Paseri's leg. <2 times>

Miru/Shiraberu: Floor. <2 times>
Miru/Shiraberu: Mike stand. <2 times>
Miru/Shiraberu: Paseri's panty or bandit's left hand.)

(I'm disappointed the Snipers carry shotguns, but
not semi-automatic pistols.)

elf, the maker of the [el] games.
Other games by elf include Doukyuusei series, Dragon
Knight series, Kakyuusei, Words Worth, and other Ecchi
games that are more kichiku (SM) and less jun'ai
(romantic).

Green Bunny, the maker of the [el] OVAs. (I expected
Pink Pineapple.)
Other OVAs by Green Bunny include Mezzo Forte, SeeIn
Ao, and Words Worth.
The Green Bunny HP has chara design sketches,
QuickTime movies, and screen shots.
The [el] OVAs have at least two volumes @ 30
minutes.
(I watched some Dragon Knight 4 and haven't watched
any Words Worth. I predict the [el] OVAs have OK to good
stories, but dull Ecchi scenes.
IMO, the OVA Elle (heroine) looks younger than the
game Elle. Also, with her long-straight red hair and blue
costume, the OVA Elle reminds me of some other anime
heroines. The first one I can think of is Juliana of
Megami Tengoku (Megami Paradise).)
