GENERAL:

This hint sheet represents just one player's method  of  winning  the  various
G-NOME missions. Because the G-NOME world is  a  dynamic,  real-time  rendered
environment there are many  possible  ways  to  win  each  of  these  missions
provided the win conditions are met in each mission.

There are several basic tactics
 you must master to successfully navigate through  the  G-NOME  world.  It  is
always better to engage enemy HAWCs singly rather than in groups.  It  can  be
easy to kill four enemy HAWCs in succession, depending on how  you  match  up.
But if you take on four enemy HAWCs at the same time you will most  likely  be
killed no matter which HAWC you have. Between engagements, you  should  always
let your shields recharge. If you immediately attack the next enemy  HAWC  you
will be at an instant disadvantage, since his shields will  be  fully  charged
while yours are not.

Use common sense when trying to defeat AI players. If you are  at  a  tactical
disadvantage, use cover such as buildings, rocks, and hills to keep away  from
your enemyТs barrage while you choose your angle. If you are ejected from your
HAWC, simultaneously locate the closest enemy  HAWC  by  pressing  E  (on  the
keyboard), raise the elevation of your gun slightly (using the Down
 arrow), and get him in your sights to use the GASHR. Voila! You  have  a  new
HAWC and your enemy is suddenly in the hotseat. Remember, though,  that  there
is a five second delay before you can enter a HAWC or building that  you  have
just GASHed.

If you see a part of your enemyТs HAWC turn red  on  radar,  concentrate  your
fire there. Use your manual, your experience, and your HUD to decide an avenue
of attack. Which HAWCs have torso-twist (use  auto-tracking)?  Which  missiles
are long-range seeking missiles (can you kill him from  beyond  his  range  or
around an obstacle)? Is it easier
 to destroy his HAWC or to use your GASHR on him and kill him on  the  ground?
As with any action
 game, you should watch the computer playerТs AI  tactics,  learn  from  them,
then use that knowledge to destroy him.

Scenario 1-1 Renegade Mercs Kill all the Mercs. It is easiest to draw them  to
you one at a time and run back around a hill to wait for them to  attack.  The
hill will shield you long enough from the second HAWC to kill the first.

Scenario 1-2 Drawbridge Take over the Darken HAWC ahead of you by  immediately
running to it at full speed. Ignore the Darken foot soldiers; itТs  easier  to
kill them with the HAWC. One of the soldiers might beat you to the HAWC before
you get to it. In that case, you must use your GASHR weapon to eject him  from
the HAWC. Enter the HAWC and run a short distance  away,  then  begin  killing
those pesky soldiers. Proceed to waypoint 1, enter the control  building,  and
use your mouse to close the drawbridge.
  Cross the drawbridge in the HAWC. (You  canТt  cross  on  foot  due  to  the
auto-turret.) Eject at the command of  the  Darken  border  patrol  (you  will
probably lose if you attack them). Make
 sure you are far enough away from the auto-turret or it will  frag  you  when
you eject.

 Scenario 1-3 Convoy Run to the motor pool ahead and steal an unoccupied Union
HAWC, then kill the Darken sentry HAWC that attacks. Exit your HAWC and  enter
the motor pool building to find the enemyТs IFF code, but make sure you  enter
from the side opposite the auto-turret. Memorize the code then return  to  and
enter your HAWC. Quickly enter the new IFF code into your HAWCТs  computer  by
using the U, I, O, and P keys on your  keyboard.  Then  search  and  find  the
advancing convoy. As you approach, the convoy leader will ask you  to  confirm
your identity by signaling. Send the signal by using communications  menu  F2,
then F9. If you havenТt entered the correct IFF code or if you  donТt  signal,
they will attack. Fall in with the convoy to  approach  the  enemy  camp.  The
rocket towers will attack if you arenТt with the convoy. After reaching the HQ
building, stop and wait for the convoy to move off a bit so they donТt see you
when you eject, but not too far or they will notice you lagging behind.  Eject
and quickly enter HQ to win.


 Scenario 1-4 LATLON Tough  mission.  First  skirt  past  the  first  camp  at
waypoint 1(stay out of range of the meson towers) and attack the  sentry  HAWC
if it is there. Approach the shield generator camp  and  draw  out  the  small
Darken
 HAWC from the edge of the hill, being careful to avoid the rocket tower fire.
Destroy the tenacious offender, then wait for your shields to recharge  before
making a run at the towers. Run at full speed and angle towards the  tower  on
the right then quickly get up next to the tower keeping it in between you  and
the second tower. The turret on the tower doesnТt pitch down enough to get you
if you stay close. You can then destroy the tower without getting
 shot. Watch out for the Darken soldier that is  ejected  when  the  tower  is
destroyed; he will try to eject you from  your  HAWC  so  you  must  kill  him
quickly. Run to the second tower and repeat the procedure,  then  destroy  the
generator building. Return to the first camp and draw the defending HAWCs out,
staying out of range of the meson tower. You may be heavily damaged and/or out
of ammunition by this point, but there is an unoccupied  Darken  HAWC  by  the
power plant you can commandeer. Destroy the power plant,  keeping  it  between
you and the meson tower. When the power plant is destroyed,. the  meson  tower
will be deactivated. Enter the CommArray on foot (you canТt enter  unless  its
shields are down, which is why you have to  destroy  the  generator)  Set  the
self-destruct by pressing Ctrl 86. Eject and quickly enter  the  empty  Darken
HAWC to win.

 Scenario 1-5 Rescue! This mission is a welcome respite after  the  ordeal  of
the previous scenario. Move down the river, bypassing  the  (mostly)  harmless
rocket towers on other side. DonТt approach  river  border  patrols  directly.
Instead, turn right and enter hidden cul-de-sac to destroy the shield
 generator. Enter the bridge control building to lower the  drawbridge.  Leave
cul-de-sac
 and take out power plant and/or meson tower. Set IFF to 0024 and cross bridge
to win.


Scenario 2-1 Dropship Rendezvous Enter
 one of two unoccupied Merc HAWCs  and  advance  to  waypoint  1.  Kylie  will
follow. An ambush happens as you approach waypoint. Kill the Mercs. As always,
try to draw them out one at
 time but be careful to keep Kylie alive. Move to waypoint 2 (go  wide  around
the corner) and protect Kylie as he enters the weapon plant at waypoint  2  by
killing the Merc soldiers that exit the building on the left
 trying to get to the rocket tower. Kylie should get back in his HAWC when  he
exits. Move on to rendezvous up past the buildings.
                                        

Scenario 2-2 River Race Comm with Kylie to tell him to follow you to  waypoint
1 at full speed. Advance down the river. Kylie may stop to fight. If so,  help
him out; youТll need him with you later. When you get  to  the  bridges,  tell
Kylie to attack one of the  attacking  HAWCs  while  you  get  in  the  tower.
Immediately take out the rocket  tower  across  the  river  by  targeting  the
turret. It should take only one shot. Do not  fire  your  towerТs  meson  beam
until it has fully recharged each time. It does much greater damage that  way,
often taking out an opposing HAWC in one or two
 shots. Kill the remaining enemy HAWCs with the tower if you can, or with your
HAWC if you cannot. As soon as you can, raise  the  bridge  that  is  down  to
prevent more enemy HAWCs from
 crossing. You can also destroy the bridge with  the  tower  if  it  is  still
functional. Then lower the drawbridge over river ahead and  cross  (make  sure
Kylie crosses, too). Advance
 on the LATLON camp destroying enemy HAWCs as they attack. At this  point  you
can either destroy the shield generator and enter the LATLON array to set  the
self-destruct or simply destroy the LATLON array to win.


Scenario 2-3 Canyon Maze Head towards waypoint 1 with Kylie. Take out the HAWC
that ambushes you, but donТt use your missiles. Go down  the  canyon  until  a
tower and power plant appear in the distance. Target  the  tower  and  advance
slowly until the ready light on your SAG-5T  missile  turns  to  green.  These
missiles are slightly longer range than the towerТs so you  can  take  it  out
safely from a distance. It may take 20 or more missiles to destroy the  tower.
Then advance to the fence and take  out  the  power  plant  with  your  energy
weapons. After the fence drops,. proceed down the canyon  until  you  see  the
second power plant in a cul-de-sac. Tell Kylie to abort task here Ч this is  a
one-man job and heТll only get in the way. You need to take out this plant  to
drop another energy barrier up ahead. However, it is guarded  by  up  to  four
Merc assault HAWCs. Do not engage these, you will lose. The trick is to target
the power plant and attack it  at  full  speed  using  auto-tracking,  running
around the building unleashing all the  ammo  youТve  got  (  including  those
missiles you so wisely conserved before), destroying it and getting the
 hell out of there. As you leave the canyon run in a zigzag pattern to try and
make the enemy forces miss you. As you get  to  the  entrance  tell  Kylie  to
follow you and head down the canyon towards waypoint  1  and  your  rendezvous
with Dr. Thane. You will be ambushed again but just
 keep running past the attackers. YouТll see Thane waiting for you at the  end
of the canyon.
 As you can see, it is very important to  conserve  your  missiles  until  you
really need them in this mission.


Scenario 2-4 EGGER This mission can be accomplished quickly if  everything  is
done just right; otherwise, things can get hairy. Advance with  Kylie  towards
waypoint 1 and kill the first wave of Mercs that attack (including the  spider
on the other side of river.) Once this is accomplished,
 Thane will instruct you to draw out a Merc HAWC for her to steal. First  tell
Kylie to abort
 his task which will make him stay put. Remember that there is now  more  than
one member on
 your team, so you must use the individual comm bands (F1  commands  everyone,
F2 commands Kylie, F3 commands Thane). Approach waypoint  1  and  then  slowly
head towards waypoint
2. YouТll see
 Thane slightly to the right of you. Stop and align  yourself  with  Thane  in
between you and the
 Merc HAWC off in the distance in front of you. This will give her a nice easy
shot at it. Target the HAWC and  send  a  couple  of  the  long  range  SAG-5T
missiles at him. Be sure you attack the sentry HAWC outside the camp  and  not
the tactical defense HAWC in the distance on your
 left flank. He will come out to attack, but start backing up to  prevent  his
missiles from inadvertently killing Thane. As he gets close to Thane, you  can
command her to attack the target. However, if he approaches close enough,  she
will attack on her own. After she kills the pilot with  the  EGGER,  she  will
enter the HAWC and transmit the codes to you.

Scenario 2-5 Citadel Approach Head south
 with Kylie until you get to an unoccupied Merc HAWC. Switch  HAWCs,  the  one
you found is more powerful. Approach the pop-up turret cluster and tell  Kylie
to abort just before you
 get in range of the turrets. You donТt need him trying  to  kill  the  pop-up
turrets theyТll come in handy later. Go to the pop-up control building at full
speed through the turrets and
 eject next to the building (right side) and quickly enter the building. Press
Y to change the IFF code to yours, this will cause the turrets to  attack  the
Merc HAWCs which are by now
 attacking. Jump out and get back in your HAWC, then head back  towards  Kylie
at full speed.
 Target the closest HAWC and command Kylie to attack it while you take out the
other. Once youТve destroyed them go around the corner with Kylie and  destroy
any remaining HAWCs. Thane will make her dash toward  the  elevator  once  all
HAWCs are destroyed. Be carefule here. There is a meson tower in the  distance
that may be firing on her, so you have to distract it until she  makes  it  to
the elevator. At that point high-tail it to her with Kylie and eject from your
 HAWC. Head for the elevator on foot with Kylie.


Scenario 2-6 Battle in the Clouds This one  is  straightforward  but  hard  to
accomplish on anything other than the easy difficulty setting. You must defeat
up to 6 waves of Merc hovercraft while Thane is  in  the  Citadel.  There  are
empty towers and HAWCs that you and Kylie can use, but  there  might  be  Merc
soldiers at the
 start that will try to occupy them, too. As the mission  begins,  immediately
target the
 nearest tower and tell Kylie (not Thane, she needs to occupy the Citadel)  to
occupy it. While you are doing that keep running to the other tower.  You  can
kill the attacking hovercraft with one fully charged meson shot by  aiming  at
the very top of their turrets
 but they are very fast. The best way may be to kill the  first  five  or  six
with the meson
 tower, then eject( your tower will almost certainly be very  close  to  being
destroyed) and GASHR a hovercraft and take it over to kill the  rest.  Win  by
defeating all Merc hovercraft. You lose if Kylie or Thane gets killed.


Scenario 3-1 Scorp Crossing Tell Kylie and Thane to abort  their  tasks;  head
for waypoint 1 by yourself. As you approach the Scorp encampment  one  of  the
soldiers might jump in the tank. If he does,  hide  behind  the  closest  rock
until the tank comes around it and then use your GASHR on the tank. Stay  back
a little
 from the rock or you will be killed by shrapnel from the missile hitting  the
rock. Get in the tank and immediately go back and pick  up  Kylie  and  Thane.
Once they see you get in the
 tank, they will head for you. Once inside, Kylie will set  your  IFF  to  the
ScorpТs. From this point on, if you eject or get ejected your  cover  will  be
blown and you will not be
 able to complete the mission. Head for waypoint 2,  either  by  avoiding  the
remaining Scorp foot soldiers, or killing them from beyond their GASHR  range.
Head for waypoint 2 and join the Scorp convoy until you see  the  Union  force
attack. You can help the Scorp in the ensuing firefight, but be  very  careful
not to accidentally hit one of the Scorp
 HAWCs. They are already suspicious of you and will interpret the errant  shot
as an attack, immediately changing their IFF code. Just take a potshot at  the
Union forces whenever you
 have a clear shot. At least one of the Scorp HAWCs must survive the fight  so
you can slip
 into the Scorp base with them unnoticed. When the fight is over fall in  with
them to the base and go through it to waypoint 3.


Scenario 3-2 SheridanТs Plan Sheridan and
 Kylie are fighting on your left flank but donТt count on any help from  them;
they have their
 hands full. You and Thane must approach  straight  down  the  valley  through
waypoint 1,
 continuing towards waypoint 2. Engage and destroy the hovercraft that attacks
you, and Thane will move to her  place  near  the  generator.  When  you  have
destroyed the Scorp hovercraft, join Thane in attacking the shield  generator.
Once that is destroyed, run with Thane at full speed  towards  the  comm-array
and into the canyon to the left. From there you and Thane  can  take  out  the
attacking Scorp as they come while staying out of
 sight of the rocket and meson towers. Once  you  have  dispatched  the  Scorp
HAWCs you can
 destroy the comm-array from inside the  canyon.  When  this  is  accomplished
proceed at full speed to waypoint 2, avoiding tower fire along the way.

Scenario 3-3 Ur-Ulit Raid Slowly approach waypoint 1 with your  wingmen  until
you get an audio warning (mine fields ahead). Immediately
 stop and command your wingmen to abort task while you  steal  a  Scorp  tank.
Using your Visom missiles, hit the occupied Scorp HAWC (tank) near waypoint 1,
and heТll come out to attack
 you. Once you hit the Scorp tank,  quickly  head  back  and  away  from  your
wingmen (and the
 minefield), then exit your HAWC and use the EGGER to kill the pilot  that  is
coming at you.
 Before you enter the enemy HAWC, destroy  your  union  tank  by  setting  the
self-destruct mechanism (Ctrl 86). From the Scorp HAWC, command  your  wingmen
to follow, and very quickly run through  the  minefield  avoiding  the  marked
areas. At the camp instruct your wingmen to attack the  occupied  tower  while
you kill the Scorp foot soldiers. If  you  move  quickly  you  can  have  your
wingmen keep one of the rocket towers busy while you occupy the other one. You
must keep the three Scorp HAWCs intact,. so the trick is to kill the  soldiers
before they can get in the HAWCs. If any of them make it  into  a  HAWC,.  you
must eject and use your GASHR or EGGER on them. Once all the Scorp are killed,
instruct each of your wingmen
 to occupy the three unoccupied Scorp HAWCs. The  scenario  is  won  when  all
three unoccupied
 Scorp HAWCs are occupied by humans.


Scenario 3-4 Ur-Alr You must first destroy the power plant on the  other  side
of river to power-down the enemy meson tower. Go straight ahead until you  see
it on your right, staying out of range of the meson  tower.  After  the  power
plant is destroyed, go back to the bridge control building and use your  GASHR
to eject the Scorp soldier. Kill him, then enter the building  and  lower  the
bridge. Cross the bridge with Thane and command her to attack the Scorp sentry
HAWC while you take out the rocket
 tower. Rendezvous with Sheridan and Kylie at waypoint 2, then proceed to  the
Scorp camp deep in the cul-de-sac. As you enter the camp, target the  delivery
elevator and wait for the ready light to turn green. When it does,  paint  the
HAWC elevator for 10 seconds by firing the laser site, then keep the  elevator
targeted for 10 seconds. When the elevator is destroyed, take out  the  rocket
tower and destroy the shield generator, along with any enemy HAWCs. Eject  and
use your GASHR to eject the soldier from the  HQ,  then  command  Sheridan  to
enter the building.


Scenario 3-5 Ion Strike Your team must fight its way through the canyon to the
Scorp camp. Kylie and Thane will engage the enemy  on  their  own  unless  you
command them to follow or defend you  (recommended).  After  you  get  to  the
camp,. command Sheridan to destroy the lab. At this point you will  receive  a
warning from
 Kylie. Listen fully to what Kylie says and follow his instructions  precisely
to win the scenario. (Extra hint: DonТt get caught on foot  when  the  lab  is
destroyed!)


Scenario 4-1 Captured You and Thane must fight your way to the Scorp HQ inside
the fenced-in camp. YouТll have to destroy the power plant to drop the  fences
protecting the camp. This is easier said than done. The
 easiest way is a full-out frontal attack on  the  power  plant.  Get  on  the
opposite side of the plant and hopefully the towers  will  hit  it  themselves
before realizing their mistake. Unload everything you and Thane  have  on  it.
When the plant is destroyed, GASHR the soldier
 out of the rocket tower and kill him. Then, either use the empty Scorp  tank,
the empty tower (if youТve already destroyed the shield  generator),  or  your
own HAWC to destroy any
 other attacking HAWCs. Once you  reach  the  camp  go  to  the  back  of  the
cul-de-sac by the HQ building, out of range of the auto-turrets. You  will  be
surrounded by Scorp HAWCs.
 Thane will translate the Scorp commanderТs message. Listen to  what  he  says
and obey him to win the scenario.

 Scenario 4-2 Scorp Defense You, Thane, and Kylie must defend the Scorp  base.
Immediately run for the meson tower on your right
 and start killing the attacking  HAWCs.  Be  careful  not  to  hit  your  own
buildings. If the attackers manage to destroy the power plant, your tower will
be useless, so use your GASHR
 to jack any enemy vehicles you can. Once all the attackers at the  encampment
are dispatched,
 hurry to the bridge control building and raise the bridge. Then  get  in  the
rocket tower and
 mop up. Defend for 15 minutes or log 15 kills to win.

Scenario 4-3: War Zone You must traverse the war zone  through  each  waypoint
and reach waypoint 3 to win. Destroy the mine control building to detonate the
minefield, otherwise you will not be able to  cross.  Enter  the  building  at
waypoint 1 to re-supply your ammunition. Enter the building at waypoint  2  to
boost your shields. Make sure Kylie and Thane are close to you and following as
 you cross the bridges, otherwise they may have trouble negotiating the  tight
turns.

 Scenario 4-4: General Delivery This mission
 may test your HAWC-jacking skills, since youТll probably need  a  replacement
HAWC before reaching your goal. You must follow the gorge along the  river  to
reach the bridge (waypoint 1).
 You will encounter a minefield,  beyond  which  four  big  Union  HAWCs  will
attack. Enter the mine control building near the minefield  and  self-destruct
it. This blows the minefield and, hopefully, any Union HAWCs  within  it.  You
may have to lure them towards you and into the minefield, then act quickly  to
blow the minefield building. Lower the bridge to win the scenario.

Scenario 4-5: SheridanТs Lair You have only
 twenty minutes so this one must be done quickly. Stay to the right  side  and
enter canyons as you come to them. In the first one kill the  power  plant  to
deactivate fences and meson towers.
 If you need them, you can find unoccupied Union HAWCs in cul-de-sac down  the
right branch. In the second canyon (waypoint 1), kill the HQ to  get  WilkinТs
audio prompt. Switch HAWCs with Wilkins. YouТll have to  tell  him  to  eject,
then to occupy your former HAWC. Approach the Lab at waypoint 2 and  use  your
laser site to kill the lab and win the mission.


Scenario 4-6: Mano-a-Mano You must not
 take the path directly ahead to catch Sheridan;  heТs  too  far  ahead.  Turn
around and take the narrow path at full speed to cut him off. Engage  Sheridan
and kill him, not just his
 HAWC, before he reaches the bridge(if he crosses the bridge, you lose).
