* Introduction to the FAQ *
****************************************************************************

Welcome to The Realm of Mortal Kombat's Fullscale Text FAQ for the home
versions of Mortal Kombat 4. It is recommended that you view and/or print
this FAQ in an ASCII Text Editor such as DOS Edit. If you are using a word
processor, use 9-point Courier New with no word wrap for proper text
alignment. Mortal Kombat 4 is the 4th installment to the extremely
successful Mortal Kombat fighting game series, and the first one to be a 3D
fighting game, adding new features such as the true Weapon Kombat system.
The home versions were ported by Eurocom Developments Ltd. and feature
many new additions which cannot be found in any revision of the arcade game.
Nearly every known bug, along with some undiscovered ones, in the arcade
Revision 3 were found and fixed for the three home versions.
In a sense, the home versions of Mortal Kombat 4 are "Revision 3+", as
MK co-creator and MK4 Lead Programmer, Ed Boon, once called it. Polygons
were reduced from the player models and the stages were simplified, but the
game's frame rate has been kept at the smooth 60 frames per second (fps).
Everything else in the game has either been kept fully intact or changed for
the better. Many new features have been added as well.

****************************************************************************
* Introduction to Mortal Kombat 4 *
****************************************************************************

Mortal Kombat was created by a team originally led by Ed Boon and John
Tobias, at Midway Manufacturing Co. (now Midway Games, Inc.'s arcade
division). As of April 1st 1998, Midway Games is officially no longer a
subsidiary of WMS Industries.
Midway is now an individual company with its main arcade division in
Chicago, Illinois., referred to as "Midway Games, Inc.". Along with a home
platform development house (which handles some of the arcade conversions to
home platforms) in San Diego, California., referred to as "Midway Home
Entertainment, Inc.", which is also the name of their home distribution and
marketing division in Corsicana, Texas. Plus, Midway now owns what was
formerly a combination of the software division of Atari and Time Warner
Group, which was previously known as Time Warner Interactive. Now known as
Atari Games Corporation, it is a wholy owned subsidiary of Midway Games, as
an alternative arcade developing division.

Mortal Kombat 4 toured the United States of America in its incomplete
preliminary form back in July 1997. After many BETA test revisions in
Chicago, Illinois (home of Midway's arcade division), Revision 1.0 was
released across the continent of North America in September of the same year.
This still-incomplete revision was soon replaced by Revision 2 later in the
fall season, and finally with Revision 3 in January 1998.
Although many of the originally planned features still never made it,
many innovative new additions to the mechanics of Mortal Kombat did make it.
Using a real Weapon Kombat system, the game allows players to draw their
weapons at any time during a fight. Weapons can be dropped, and picked up
by either of the match's participants, and can even be thrown or dropped at
will. There are even objects laying on the floor in many stages that you can
pick up and throw at your opponent as a weapon.
Being the first Mortal Kombat to be in 3 dimensions of glory, it just
wouldn't be complete without some use of the 3rd dimension in the gameplay.
You can now side-step into the depth of the arena, or toward the direction
of the camera view. This is done in a way that, unlike some of the past
games with simular concepts, prevents you from using it to "cheaply" avoid
attacks. It takes an almost impossible timing to actually avoid many hits
using this, as it comes in handy mainly to dodge projectiles or get to where
a dropped weapon or useable object is on the ground.
As even the Chicago MK Design Team agreed that Mortal Kombat 3 had gone
too far with humor in finishers (ie. stretching people out, inflating their
heads, etc.) MK4 returns to the dark, violent, feel of the original. Despite
the small bit of "humor" used in MK4's Fatalities, you can no longer find the
finisher types that were created as parodies (Friendships, Babalities, and
Animalities). The goal here was to create a game that is visually realistic
but physically impossible, the way Mortal Kombat was, and forever should be.

* The Story *
****************************************************************************

The Elder Gods rule all Realms of the Universe, overseeing the creation and
destruction of worlds.

When the new realm of Earth was created, one of those Gods decided that he
would take that world for himself. Shinnok knew that if he could control
Earth, he would have untold power.

What Shinnok didn't count on was the presence of Raiden, the God of Thunder.
The Elder Gods had already sent Raiden to Earth to act as the realm's
guardian, and when Shinnok arrived, the two Gods engaged in a titanic battle.
Their combat almost destroyed the entire planet, and for many centuries
Earth was plunged into darkness.

Raiden eventually defeated Shinnok and banished him to the Netherealm, the
place where all unwanted spirits are sent. The Netherealm has existed since
the beginning of time and has had many names. Whether it's known as Hell,
Hades, Gehenna or Pluto, it has always had the same purpose: to act as the
final home of those who have done wrong.

When Shinnok awoke in the Netherealm, he found himself under attack by
Lucifer, the leader of the fiery realm. Lucifer used the souls of those whom
Shinnok himself had banished to the Netherealm to attack the Elder God.
Shinnok was quickly beaten and found himself in the dregs of Hell.

Continually tortured and tormented, Shinnok remained a prisoner of the
Netherealm for thousands of years. He believed that he would never escape
and had no hope until the arrival of Quan Chi, a mysterious sorcerer who had
the power to travel throughout all of the planes of reality without detection
from any of the Gods.

Quan Chi told Shinnok that he would help him escape from his prison and
defeat Lucifer. All Quan Chi wanted in exchange was power and the right to
rule at Shinnok's side. Shinnok agreed, and the two waged a war in the
Netherealm that lasted for centuries. They eventually beat Lucifer and took
control of the Netherealm. Shinnok was now the ruler of the dead realm, but
he wasn't happy with his conquest. The Netherealm is nothing more than fire
and brimstone, and he only rules over the grotesque demons that inhabit the
realm. Shinnok wants more, and what Shinnok wants, Quan Chi must try to
arrange.

To Quan Chi, the Realm of Edenia seems like a good place to start...

MORTAL KOMBAT 4
Darkness is calling.

"Thousands of years ago, in a battle with the fallen elder god known as
Shinnok, I was responsible for the death of an entire civilization. To rid
all realms of Shinnok's menace, I waged a war that plunged the earth into
centuries of darkness and banished Shinnok into a place called the
Netherealm."
"Now, after Shao Kahn's defeat at the hands of earth's warriors, Shinnok
has managed to escape his confines in the Netherealm. The war is now being
faught once again... only this time, it can be won by mortals."
- Raiden, God of Thunder
Defender of Earth

* Definition of Terms *
****************************************************************************

Forward/Back (Directions)
Forward refers to whichever direction is toward your opponent, while Back
refers to the opposite side. They fully depend on your position in the view
and is a standard way to list moves for fighting games.

Block Button
The Block button was introduced in the original Mortal Kombat. It is used
for many special moves and finishers, but normally lets your character go
into a defensive position to reduce the amount of damage you'll take from
an opponent's attack.

Run Button
The Run button was introduced in MK3 for the purpose of speeding up the
series' gameplay. Like any other button, it is also used to pull off some
special moves and finishers, but holding it when pressing forward lets you
run toward your opponent (until your Run Meter, under energy bar, runs out).
This allows you to perform Kombos since they're done at close range. In
MK4, Run is also used in combination with down to pick up a dropped weapon
or an objects. Plus, pressing it twice allows you to side-step.

Basic Moves
Basic moves are universal and relatively easier to pull off than special
moves. They are typically less damaging than special moves and usually less
impressive-looking (with a few exceptions) but are also useful in Kombos
during fights.

Special Moves
Special moves are moves that are specific to a character. They are
generally harder to pull off than most basic moves, but are easy enough to
perform that you can use them as part of your offensive arsenal during a
fight. Usually, special moves look more impressive and do more damage than
basics, and some of them can even be used in Kombos as well.

Kombos
A "Kombo" is a combination attack. A chained sequence of attacks, done
without knocking the opponent to the ground, and giving the opponent no time
in between hits to retaliate. MK3 introduced a pre-programmed Kombo System
in which every "Kombo" in the game was a defined sequence like special moves
are. However, MK4, although with pre-programmed (or "predefined") Kombo
Starters (like HP - HP - HK - Down + HP), players are once again allowed to
make up their own powerful Kombos, like the first two games. Basics and
Special moves alike, can be now used in Kombos.

Maximum Damage
Maximum Damage is a new limit put on the amount of damage a Kombo inflicts.
It causes both players to drop back when a Kombo exceeding the limit of 40%
is performed (and since the last hit counts, some can actually exceed 50%).
This was done for the purpose of evening up the competition a bit when a
novice player is matched up against an experienced one. However, many
people feel that this takes away from your ability to show your skill once
you have developed it, so the home versions of MK4 provide an option for you
to toggle Maximum Damage.

Finishers
The original Mortal Kombat introduced the concept of finishers to the whole
fighting game genre. The first type of finishers were Fatalities, everyone
in MK1 had one of their own. The second type was originally referred to as
"Pits", but have come to be known as "Stage Fatalities", in which you make
use of the current stage's resources to finish off the opponent (such as a
ceiling of spikes or a large fan on the far wall). Finishers can be
performed once you have won the fight, and "Finish Him!" (or Her) is
announced.

Fatalities
Fatalities were the original type of finishers. They have changed the face
of the fighting game genre forever. Originally, Fatalities were "dark,
evil, and violent" ways to kill an opponent after winning the fight. MK4
returns to this style with extremely gory Fatalities like the originals.
In fact, many of the original Fatals from MK1 and 2 have been redone in 3D
for MK4.

Stage Fatalities
Stage Fatalities are a form of finishers using the resources of the stage
you are fighting in to finish off the victim. They were originally known as
"Pits" in the original Mortal Kombat since the first one was a bed of spikes
beneath the bridge of the MK1 stage named "The Pit". However, it wasn't
actually announced by the game as a "Fatality" until MKII, in which button
sequences were used for it rather than just the uppercut motion. There are
two Stage Fatalities in MK4, the spikes on the ceiling in Goro's Lair, and
the fan on the far wall in The Prison. Every character has his/her own
motion that's used to perform each of the two.

Regular Characters
Regular characters are the "kombatants" who can be chosen without the use
of any "codes" or "cheats". They are available for you on the select screen
by default. There are a total of 15 regular characters in MK4.

Hidden Characters
Hidden characters are "kombatants" who must be unlocked via some sort of
"code", they are otherwise absent. There are three hidden characters in the
home versions of MK4, one of which is Goro, who is actually a subboss who
can be played as via a code. The other two, Noob Saibot and Meat, can only
be seen in the game at all when they are played as via their "codes".

Kombat Kodes ("KK's")
Kombat Kodes, introduced in MK3, are the standard way of entering cheat
codes in 2-player games. They are entered at the VS screen using a button to
control each of the boxes. Each Kombat Kode consists of 6 digits.

* Frequently Asked Questions *
****************************************************************************

** Story-Related Questions **

Q: Why do Scorpion and Sub-Zero suddenly hate eachother again?
A: Endings have always been "What If" scenarios, and as you may recall, the
endings of the past games (from MKII to Trilogy) acknowledge the character's
ending from the previous game as having happened.
For example, in the ending for Scorpion in MKII, he discovered that the
Sub-Zero he had followed to that tournament was actually the younger brother
of the one he had already killed in MK1, so he lets him live and swears to
protect him for eternity to make up for the death of his older brother.
Then In UMK3 and Trilogy, the ending for Scorpion acknowledges the above
events as having happened, so he had to turn on Shao Kahn since he swore to
protect this young Sub-Zero.
However, as far as the endings in MK4 are concerned, none of these "What If"
scenarios (endings) from the past games ever took place (which, in a way, is
logical, since they show the events that take place "IF This Character Won
This Tournament" and the character, in most cases, obviously didn't).
So in summary, Scorpion never discovered the true identity of this younger
Sub-Zero and still believes he's the same one who he had already killed in
MK1 and has been hunting down since. Like it, love it, or hate it, this is
just the way the story of MK4 works.

Q: Didn't Johnny Cage die? Why is he back in MK4?
A: Yes, Johnny Cage died in the course of MKII. There are really two answers
to the question of why he has returned:
In reality, he has been added to MK4 because he is one of the most popular,
if not THE most popular, characters in the whole series. He was written out
in MK3 for many reasons, but the fans demanded his return.
But as far as the story goes (which is used to explain WHY), he was
resurrected by Raiden to help in the battle against Shinnok and his Army of
Darkness. Don't try to analyze that subplot too deeply, just accept the
simple fact that one of your favorite characters has returned because of
your own popular demand.

** Technical Questions **

Q: What's the size of the N64 cart?
A: 128 megabits (that's 16 MegaBYTES).

Q: What type of imaging techniques were used in MK4?
A: The characters in MK4 were modelled on a PC using LightWave. The
animations are motion-captured and their textures are digital video, grabbed
in the studio and touched up by artist Dave Michicich. The stages are built
by different members of the development team, using LightWave as well.

Q: Why does the gameplay in the home versions seem identical to the arcade?
A: This is because "code-converters" were used to port the game to the home
platforms. This is the actual engine coded by Ed Boon, Todd Allen, and Ed's
brother, Mike Boon, for the arcade game. Ed Boon has also written fresh new
code exclusively for the home versions for use with Goro (who was made from
scratch by the Chicago MK Team and then sent to Eurocom).

Q: Why does Sub-Zero's red line switch sides? This is normally to be
expected of a game that uses sprites, but these are 3D models!
A: Well, firstly, MK4 was designed with the idea of "a 3D MK" in mind, which
meant making a game that looks and feels like the classic 2D MK games, yet
uses 3D technology. Take a look at two idle fighters on screen in their
stances. Notice that both have their bodies facing the camera just like in
the 2D MK games (as opposed to the one on the right facing away, which
happens in other 3D fighting games such as Tekken and War Gods). They only
appeared this way in the 2D games because sprites need to be flipped
horizontally on the screen to appear facing the other way, but how can this
look be recreated with 3D models? Well Ed Boon and company did this by
flipping the models and animations in their x-axis whenever he/she is
recognized as being on the "right side of the screen" in 2D MK terms. For
example, if you are the first player, and you jump over your opponent and
onto the other side of him/her, you must use Back in place of Forward and
vice versa for your moves, therefore are recognized as being on the "right
side of the screen".

** Other **

Q: Where can I find the latest revision of this FAQ?
A: The latest revision is always uploaded to The Realm of Mortal Kombat, and
can be found as "http://mk.hotweird.com/mk4home/mk4home.txt". It is also
usually available at GameFAQs.com (http://www.gamefaqs.com/).

Q: How can I print this out for reference?!
A: You can't unless you're willing to use a LOT of paper and ink. This FAQ
is intended as an "all you ever wanted to know about MK4" guide. If you
would like to print out a moves and codes list, our mini FAQ can be found
on The Realm of Mortal Kombat with the following URL:
http://mk.hotweird.com/mk4home/mini4faqh.html
The mini FAQ can be printed only a few pages, and is compiled and maintained
by yours truly and TRMK owner, Jeff "Greesman" Greeson.

Q: What's the origin of the name, Noob Saibot?
A: Noob Saibot is Boon Tobias spelled backwards. Ed Boon and John Tobias are
the co-creators of Mortal Kombat. Boon continues to lead the arcade MK
development team while Tobias has moved on to doing MK story-oriented
projects for home gaming platforms, since he was the one who wrote the
series' story in the first place.

Q: Is Raiden spelled "Rayden" in MK4 Home Versions again?
A: No. For the first time, Raiden's name remains spelled with an "i" in the
home versions of an MK game. The reason it was ever changed to a "y" in the
past games was due to copyright problems with an Atari Jaguar game called
"Raiden". These copyright conflicts have been resolved.

Q: Did Acclaim make MK4 home versions? If not, who did?
A: No. Acclaim is no longer associated with Midway Games Inc. in any way,
shape, or form. Their license to port Midway arcade games to home platforms
ended with WWF WrestleMania Arcade. Acclaim's subsidiaries and close
affiliates (that includes Sculptured Software in Salt Lake City, who are now
known as Iguana West, Probe in the UK, and all the other company names seen
on older MK home conversions) are also no longer related to the home ports
of MK games. Eurocom Developments Ltd., located in the UK, who are close
affiliates of Midway, are the ones who ported MK4 to the home platforms.
They are best known for the DOS port of "Super Street Fighter II Turbo" for
Capcom, "Duke Nukem 64" for GT Interactive Software (who incidentally now
have the license to distribute Midway's home games in Europe), the Saturn
port of "Ultimate MK3" for Midway, and three ports of "War Gods" for Midway
(great ports of a very limited game). They have also worked on the home
ports of Cruis'n World for Nintendo of America, which is due out in North
America just a few months after MK4.

Q: Why doesn't MK4 have "The Pit 4"?
A: The MK4 Design Team felt it was becoming too redundant to do a "The Pit 4"
stage fatality in MK4. Instead, the only "pit" in the game is the one you
see during the "Continue?" screen (described at the end of this FAQ).

****************************************************************************
* The Rules *
****************************************************************************

The basic purpose in Mortal Kombat is to deminish all of your opponent's
energy before he/she deminishes yours. If your energy is equal to your
opponent's when/if the time runs out, a draw is ruled. Both participants
lose the fight if there is no decisive winner after 5 rounds. Once a
kombatant gains two victories, he may "Finish" his opponent by a Fatality or
Stage Fatality.

Side Step Out: Run, Run (or the "Side Step Out" button)
Two footsteps (in the Z plane) into the depth of the arena, away from
the camera view. Note: after you have side stepped in either direction,
you are not allowed to do so again for 3 seconds. This is so to prevent
any "cheap" constant escape techniques.
Side Step In: Down + Run, Run (or the "Side Step In" button)
Two footsteps (in the Z plane) toward the direction of the camera view.
Note: after you have side stepped in either direction, you are not
allowed to do so again for 3 seconds. This is so to prevent any "cheap"
constant escape techniques.

** Basic Attacks and Maneuvers **

High Punch: HP
Punch to the opponent's face.
Low Punch: LP
Punch to the opponent's torso.
High Kick: HK
Kick to the opponent's face.
Low Kick: LK
Kick to the opponent's torso.
Block: BL
Get into a defensive position to block direct blows and projectiles
(uses your weapon to do so, if you're holding one). Hold it with Back
to block Throws and Bone Breakers.
Run up to Your Opponent: Run + Forward
Run toward your opponent for an aggressive offense.
Pick Up a Weapon/Object: Down + Run (While standing over a weapon or object)
Pick up a weapon on the ground to use, or an object laying around in the

Roundhouse Kick: Back + HK
Roundhouse kick, causes the opponent to spiral to the ground.
FootSweep: Back + LK
Take the opponent's feet out from under him/her (also causes travel in
the Z plane).

** Crouching Moves **

Uppercut: Down + HP
Flips the opponent backwards, hitting the floor head-first with a crack,
and leaving a small stain of blood on the ground that stays for a
moment.
Crouch Punch: Down + LP
A simple punch to the opponent's midsection.
Crouch Kick: Down + HK
- For Kai, Raiden, Reptile, Cage, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi, Noob, and Goro:
Vertical Side Kick (a "Jean Claude Van Damme-style" vertical side kick
aimed at the opponent's jaw. It causes him/her to flip backwards and
land on his/her head if it makes contact.)
- For Shinnok, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Jax, Reiko, Jarek, and Tanya:
Crouching Chest Kick (a high kick aimed at the opponent's chest, done
in a crouching position.)
- For Fujin and Sonya: Crouching Crotch Kick (a straight kick to the
opponent's crotch area, done in a crouching position. Pushes him/her
back a step if it hits.)
Ankle Kick: Down + LK
Kick targeting the opponent's ankle while you're crouching.

** Close Range Attacks **

Face Smash: HP (Close)
- For Kai, Cage, Fujin, Quan Chi, and Sonya: Headbutt.
- For Raiden, Shinnok, Liu Kang, Reptile, Scorpion, Jax, Reiko, Jarek,
Tanya, Sub-Zero, Goro, and Noob Saibot: Forearm Smash.
Throw: LP (Close)
Throw or slam your opponent, the exact move used differs between the
different characters. Specific Throw Descriptions can be found in each
of the character's sections in this FAQ.
Knee Smash: HK (Close)
A quick hard knee to the opponent's stomach.
Bone Breaker: LK (Close)
A painful moves that ranges from a knee-snap to a neck-break. They're
not necessarily realistic, since a victim of one would swing their neck
back in place after getting it broken, but it creates a nice visual
effect in a fight. The specific move varies depending on the character,
you can find specific Bone Breaker Descriptions in each of the
character's own sections in this FAQ.

** Arial Attacks **

Light Jump Punch: Jump, HP
Hits the opponent using the fist farther away from the camera view
(left hand when on the left side), it allows you to start Kombo's with
it since it doesn't knock the opponent to the ground.
Heavy Jump Punch: Jump, LP
Hits the opponent hard using the fist closer to the camera view (right
hand when on the left side), knocks the opponent to the ground.
Vertical Hop Kick: Jump Up, HK or LK
- For Kai, Raiden, Liu Kang, Jax, Reiko, Tanya, and Fujin: Spin Kick.
- For Shinnok, Reptile, Scorpion, Cage, Jarek, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi,
Sonya, Goro, and Noob Saibot: Front Face Upward Kick (an upward kick
done with one foot while the other is back with knee bent, facing
forward.)
Long Jump Kick: Jump Diagonal (Forward or Back), HK
- For Kai, Raiden, Reptile, Jax, Reiko, Cage, Fujin, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi,
Sonya, Goro, and Noob Saibot: Wrestling-Style Missle Dropkick aimed just
slightly diagonally.
- For Shinnok, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Jarek, and Tanya: Ninjitsu-Style
Jump Kick aimed straight forward.
Short Jump Kick: Jump Diagonal (Forward or Back), LK
- For Kai, Raiden, Reptile, Jax, Reiko, Cage, Fujin, Sub-Zero, Quan Chi,
Sonya, Goro, and Noob Saibot: Wrestling-Style Missle Dropkick aimed at a
downward 45 degree angle.
- For Shinnok, Liu Kang, Scorpion, Jarek, and Tanya: Ninjitsu-Style
Jump Kick aimed at a downward 45 degree angle.

** Intermediate Techniques **

Turn-around Jump Kick: Any jump kick after jumping past an opponent.
Jump over your opponent, turn around in midair, and kick him/her from
the other side.
Turn-around Jump Punch: Any jump punch after jumping past an opponent.
Jump over your opponent, turn around in midair, and punch him/her from
the other side.
Heavy Hit: HP when opponent jumps toward you.
The heavy hit is a maneuver for more experienced players that delivers a
hard blow to an opponent who is jumping near you, it inflicts more
damage than a normal High Punch, but it takes accurate timing.

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo 2-4 ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
****************************************************************************
* The Kombo System *
****************************************************************************

MK4 has many "Kombo" styles, most of which take some skill and timing to
perform properly. They are now limited by "Maximum Damage" at 40%, but the
last hit registers so it can sometimes go up to as high as 50% or above.

The main Kombo Starters are 1) HP - HK, 2) HP - HP, and 3) HK - HK. For
Ground Chain Kombos, simply run or walk up to close range and use a starter,
or even jump in with a Light Jump Punch (jumping HP) which even adds an extra
hit and more damage to your Kombo.
For Air Chain Kombos, perform a starter when you're in contact with the
opponent while in midair.
You can also add the use of a weapon in Ground Kombos by drawing your
weapon during it, which usually causes an automatic hit. Other types of
Kombos found in MK4 include individual ones that are done in particular
situations, such as after freezing an opponent in the air when playing as
Sub-Zero.

* Weapon Kombat *
****************************************************************************

Introduction to Weapons
Every character has a weapon that he/she pulls out when the Weapon Draw move
is used. When a character is holding a weapon in his/her hands, it will
drop to the ground if he/she takes a hit. Once a weapon is laying on the
ground, either kombatant can pick it up. To throw a weapon you're holding,
just do your character's Weapon Draw movement while a weapon is already in
your hands. If you're already holding a weapon in your hands, you can't
pick up another weapon that is laying on the ground, or pick up any other
objects laying around in the stage you're fighting in.

Objects in the Background
You can also pick up any objects that are laying around on the floor in
Goro's Lair, The Well, and The Tomb. Pick them up the same way you would
pick up a dropped weapon, but you will immediately throw the object at the
opponent automatically (you can't hold it).

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo 2-6 ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
****************************************************************************
* Basic Strategies *
****************************************************************************

As a beginner, you should try to master a single character first, before
you start with others. One of the most important basics a beginner to Mortal
Kombat 4 should learn is how to counter your opponents properly:
- If your opponent jumps at you from a distance approximately two body
lengths, deliver an uppercut to him/her.
- If your opponent jumps at you from a distance closer than the above,
throw a simple High Kick to knock him/her back.
- If your opponent uses a Special Move that brings him/her close to you
(such as a Slide or Torpedo Dive), block it and counter with a Kombo.
Against most opponents, it's a good idea to run at your opponent after
they've done a move and are unable to quickly retaliate. Basic Kombos and
even rapid High Punches usually work well in this situation. Side Stepping,
despite 3 second intervals between them, are both good for getting to weapons
as well as getting close to your opponent offensively if you combine it with
running in. You can also incorporate your weapon into Kombos, both by having
it drawn before doing one, as well as drawing it during one, which actually
adds an automatic hit to your Kombo.

1 on 1 KOMBAT: The traditional Mortal Kombat you've come to expect. In 1
player, you'll choose your fighter, choose a destiny tower,
and fight your way up in best-of-3 round fights until you
defeat Goro and Shinnok. In 2 player (just press Start on
controller 2 at the Choose Your Fighter screen), it's a
single best-of-3 round fight against eachother.
2 on 2 KOMBAT: A team game played by 2 players controlling 2 characters
each. Best-of-3 round fights, the first to lose both of
their characters in a round loses it. New to the home
versions, 2-on-2 Kombat can actually be played by a single
player if no 2nd player presses Start. In 1 player, you
choose a team of 2, then fight up a destiny tower of 2-on-2
matches VS the CPU. If you finish this, you will see the
normal ending of whoever you used to win the last match.

Endurance mode is MK4's rendition of the classic MK1 concept, battle
multiple opponents one after another. There are actually three different
variations of it now:
Endurance: 1 Player game in which you fight up a Destiny Tower one after
another in a series of single-round fights without regaining
any energy. If you beat them all, you will see your
character's ending. If you lose a single round, "GAME OVER"
will appear on-screen, and you will have the privilage of
seeing your body explode into pieces.
VS Endurance: 2 Players battle against eachother with using character after
another in a series of single-round matches without
regaining any energy. The first one to lose all 15 of
his/her characters loses the fight. The 1st Player always
wears the character's 1st outfit, and the 2nd Player always
wears the character's 2nd outfit. The order is always:
Scorpion, Raiden, Sonya, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Fujin, Shinnok,
Reiko, Quan Chi, Tanya, Reptile, Kai, Jarek, Jax, and Cage.
Ultimate Endurance: 1 Player takes on the CPU in an endless survival
against one opponent after another in a series of one-round
matches. You do not regain any energy between opponents.
Every round allows you to FINISH HIM/HER, so you can perform
a Fatality. The fight continues until you have been
defeated by a CPU opponent, at which time you will see a
screen that shows your Body Count (number of opponents you
defeated), Perfect Kills (number of Flawless Victories you
got), and Fatals (number of Fatalities you have performed).
Underneath this stats will be your Ultimate Endurance rating
(Beginner, Apprentice, Amateur, etc.)

Random Icon
Choose "Random" to let the computer choose a character for you. This was
done in past games by holding Up and pressing Start but you can now do it by
simply choosing the "Random" icon on the select screen.

Group Icon (2-Player VS Games Only)
Choose "Group" to play as the first character on the select screen grid,
Kai. Win the fight and choose it again to play as the second one (Raiden),
and so on until you have had a chance to play as all 15 characters. You
will then be able to play as a hidden character, Meat.

Hidden Icon
Choose "Hidden" to hide your cursor. Once your cursor is hidden, your
opponent in a 2-player game wouldn't be able to see who you are choosing
before he makes his/her choice. This is now also used for a certain other
purpose, in the home versions (see Goro and Noob Saibot for details).

Rotating The Icons
If you just choose an icon with any button normally, you will play as your
character in his/her Outfit 1, and with his/her Weapon 1. Rotate the icon a
certain number of times before choosing the icon to get one of your
character's other outfits and/or weapons. In order to rotate an icon, hold
the START button and press ANY button, while you're highlighting it with
your cursor. If you rotate 4 times, you will hear "Excellent" without the
laugh, it's the same as not rotating at all (this is a way to reverse the
effect of a previous rotation).

1) Cheat Menu
At the Options menu, highlight "CONTINUES" and hold Block + Run for
10 seconds until the Cheat Menu pops up.
ENDINGS - When turned ON, you will get to see your character's
ending after winning only one match (the first CPU
opponent on the ladder is treated as the boss).
FATALITIES I - When turned ON, simply Hold DOWN and Press HP
after "Finish Him/Her" to do your character's 1st
Fatality.
FATALITIES II - When turned ON, simply Hold DOWN and Press HP
after "Finish Him/Her" to do your character's 2nd
Fatality.
LEVEL FATALITIES - When turned ON, simply Hold DOWN and Press HP
after "Finish Him/Her" to do a Stage Fatality
(Note: if you're fighting on ANY stage other than
The Prison, you will do the Ceiling Spikes Fatality
that's normally only done only in Goro's Lair. This
includes the two stages with open skies, Wind World
and Ice Pit).

2) Play As Goro
Step 1: Finish the game using Shinnok as your character. Note: If you go to
the "Controller Pak" menu in Options and save using "Save
Configuration Data" after doing this, you can go directly to Step 2
next time you play the game.
*A Cheat For a Cheat*
If you're too lazy to actually finish the game with Shinnok, you can
skip this step by simply accessing the Cheat Menu (see cheat #1 in this
section for details). Nothing needs to be turned on or off in it, just
accessing it is equal to completing this first step.
Step 2: At the select screen, choose the "HIDDEN" icon, move up to SHINNOK
with your now-invisible cursor, and choose him using Block + Run,
you will have actually chosen Goro as your character.
NOTE: In a 2-Player game, only one of you can be Goro. Whoever
did Step 2 first will be Goro.

*TRMK's Timing Tricks*
If you're having trouble getting the timing for Step 2, or would just
like a way to be able to do it easier, there are two tricks you can use
for it.
1) After choosing the "HIDDEN" icon, move up to SHINNOK and Hold START,
then Hold RUN, let go of Start, and choose the icon with BLOCK while
you're still holding Run. This will cause the icon to rotate in the
process but it really doesn't make a difference for Goro.
OR 2) Choose the "HIDDEN" icon using RUN, and keep holding it while you
move up to SHINNOK. Now press BLOCK while still holding Run.

*Play As Goro in Group Mode*
To play as Goro in Group mode, first complete Step 1. Now in Group
mode, at Shinnok's turn, choose Hidden and then choose Group the same
way you would choose Shinnok in Step 2.

3) Play as Noob Saibot
Step 1: Finish the game using Reiko as your character. Then in a 2-Player
game, enter Kombat Kode #13: 012-012, "Noob Saibot Mode", then quit
the game. Note: If you go to the "Controller Pak" menu in Options
and save using "Save Configuration Data" after doing this, you can
go directly to Step 2 next time you play the game.
*A Cheat For a Cheat*
If you're too lazy to actually finish the game with Reiko, you can
skip this step by simply accessing the Cheat Menu (see cheat #1 in this
section for details). Nothing needs to be turned on or off in it, just

Step 2: At the select screen, choose the "HIDDEN" icon, move up to REIKO

you will have actually chosen Noob Saibot as your character.
NOTE: In a 2-Player game, both of you can be Noob Saibot.

*TRMK's Timing Tricks*
If you're having trouble getting the timing for Step 2, or would just
like a way to be able to do it easier, there are two tricks you can use

1) After choosing the "HIDDEN" icon, move up to REIKO and Hold START,
then Hold RUN, let go of Start, and choose the icon with BLOCK while
you're still holding Run. This will cause the icon to rotate in the
process so you may want to use trick #2 instead if you want Noob's
first outfit. You can also press Run as many times as you like, so
you can use this to choose Noob's 2nd or 3rd outfit as long as you
remember to hold it on the last rotation.
OR 2) Choose the "HIDDEN" icon using RUN, and keep holding it while you
move up to REIKO. Now press BLOCK while still holding Run.

*Play As Noob in Group Mode*
To play as Noob in Group mode, first complete Step 1. Now in Group
mode, at Reiko's turn, choose Hidden and then choose Group the same
way you would choose Reiko in Step 2.

4) Play As Meat
Step 1: In a 2-player game, keep choosing the "GROUP" icon and win 15
matches with it. You will then have played as all 15 of the regular
characters.
Step 2: Choose ANYONE on the select screen, you will have actually chosen
Meat as your character.
*Just For Fun*
If you have completed Step 1 of the code to Play As Goro, access Meat
with the above two steps before going on to Step 2 of the Goro code.
You will play as Goro using the Meat model.

5) Stage Select in 1-Player Games

complicated Fatalities. Here are the Keyboard-friendly ways to do some of
the Fatalities when the option is on:

Reptile's Face Chew: Hold HP + HK - Up
(You don't need to hold LP or LK with it)
Sub-Zero's Spine Rip: Forward - Back - Forward - Down - HP + BL

Place of Birth: Kuatan, the 4th Astral Plane of the Shokan Province in the
Realm of Outworld (its form at the time of his birth)
Occupation: Former Prince of Kuatan and Ruler of the Shokan Armies.

Description
Goro has his black pony tail on his bald head. He has four arms, his skin

Story
The half human dragon stood as Shang Tsung's protector in the first
tournament. Goro took the Mortal Kombat title from the original Kung Lao,
only to have it won from him nine generations later by Lao's ancestor, Liu
Kang. Seeking revenge, the Shokan Prince has returned from the Outworld to
crush Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat.
NOTE: There is an obvious error in this bio, which we have copied above
word-for-word from the N64 version, Liu Kang is the original Kung Lao's
descendant, not ancestor.

Default Weapons
He does NOT have any weapons of his own. However, he CAN pick up an
opponent's dropped weapon.

Throw Description - Chest Pound
Goro holds the opponent at the waist with his lower arms and pounds on their
chest with his upper arms. He then lifts the opponent overhead and slams
him/her to the other side.

Bone Breaker Description - Four Armed Backbreaker
Goro holds the opponent overhead at the upperbody and midsection with his

* Bugs and Unintended Effects *
****************************************************************************

This is a list of known bugs and unintended effects in the home versions
of MK4. If you have noticed such things in any of the three games, feel free
to submit it to mk4bugs@icemaster.org with your name and which platform you
have seen or done it on.

FROZE THE WRONG COSTUME (Tested on N64) Submitted by Esirc
If you're using Sub-Zero or using his Ice Scepter and your opponent is
wearing his/her third outfit (or even second if it's noticeably different
other than color, such as Sub-Zero or Liu Kang), freeze him/her. Notice that
it appears as though your opponent was frozen while wearing his/her first
outfit instead.

WRONG CLONE! (All versions) Additional notes from Brenton Simpson
If you're using Sub-Zero and are wearing your second outfit (unmasked),
or you're using Shinnok and mimmicking Sub-Zero, doing the Ice Clone move
will create an ice statue of a masked Sub-Zero (his 1st and 3rd costumes)
instead of an unmasked Sub-Zero or Shinnok.

BIG HEADS SHRINK (Tested on N64)
When you've used the Big Head mode Kombat Kode (321-321), the players'
heads will shrink back to normal size when it is severed by a Fatality such
as a decapitation or explosion.

A SKULL UNDER A SKULL (Tested on N64) Submitted by Darkfwank
When you're wearing Scorpion's 3rd costume (gray with skull exposed),
Breathe Fire (Down - Forward - LP) to Scorpion take off his skull to reveal
another skull underneath before breathing fire (the removed skull will appear
as his normal black and yellow mask). This also happens if you do his first
Fatality.

FIRE FROM THE FOREHEAD (Tested on N64)
Pick Scorpion in a 2-player game and enter the Big Head mode Kombat Kode
(321-321). Breathe Fire or do his first Fatality to see the fire coming out
of his oversized-skull's forehead.

BIG HEADED REIKO THROUGH THE CAMERA (Tested on N64 & PSX) Submitted by Sid
Using Reiko in Big Head Mode (321-321), do his Spinning Teleport move
(Back - Forward - LK) to see a graphical glitch with the camera during the
spin animation.

SMALL ACID BUBBLES (All versions) Submitted by Brenton Simpson
If you're using Reptile in Big Head Mode (321-321), his acid bubbles
(spit them using Down - Forward - HP) appear small.

NO SPIKES ON SHINNOK'S FACE (PSX & W95 Only) Submitted by Patrick McCarron
There are sometimes no spikes on Shinnok's face when he's dying, in the
PSX and Windows 95 versions. This doesn't always happen, and never happens
at all in the N64 version.

NO SPIRAL IN 2on2 SHINNOK DEATH (Tested on N64)
If you beat the game in 1-player 2-on-2 Kombat mode, Shinnok (or his
partner, whoever you beat in the last round) falls into blackness, there's no
spiral or fire in the animation.

TWO MEN DOWN (Seen on N64)
It's almost impossible to time this on purpose: if your opponent hits
you with a move that knocks you down (but you still have more energy left) at
exactly the same time you hit him with his dying hit, you will be lying dead
on the floor and not be able to do a Fatality, but still be announced as the
winner while you lie flat on the ground. It's not a draw since you still
have more energy left, but you can't move.

SONYA AND GORO IN SILENCE (PSX Only) Submitted by Sid
During a match between Sonya and Goro, some of Sonya's high-pitched
yells will cause the background music to stop.

CPU GETS UP TOO FAST (N64 and PSX) Submitted by Sid
In a fight against a CPU opponent, using the Downward Slash with any
weapon that has it (LP when holding Kai's Ghurka Knife, etc.) will cause the
CPU opponent to fall and appear to just "teleport" back to his/her feet.

BIG HEADED ENDINGS (N64 Only) Submitted by Proceba2
This isn't really a bug, but it's a fun little effect to see. In a 2-
player game, enter the Big Head Mode Kombat Kode (321-321) and don't continue
with the losing player. Now finish the game, the characters in the ending
will appear with big heads, since they're realtime animations in the N64.

ACID BUBBLES U-TURN (All versions, plus arcade) Submitted by Brenton Simpson
If you're using Reptile and you Acid Spit (Down - Forward - HP) just
when your opponent is jumping over you, the first half of the bubbles will
be directed at your opponent's original position, while the rest after it
will be going the opposite direction (the side your opponent has jumped to).

FROZEN BODY DISAPPEARS (PSX & PC versions only) Submitted by countless people
When you freeze either Quan Chi or Shinnok in the PC or PSX versions of
the game, their frozen self will be invisible. This also happens if Shinnok
is impersonating Sub-Zero and does the Ice Clone move (the clone will not be
visible).

HOLD BACKGROUND OBJECTS LIKE WEAPONS (All versions) Submitted by JTMcGoo
In a 2-player game at Goro's Lair, The Tomb, or The Well, choose Tanya
and play against any character. Enter the "Weapon Kombat" KK (002-002) at
the VS screen so that you can't drop your weapon. Throw Tanya's boomerage
and jump when it's on its way back so you'll drop it. Now pick up an object
that's on the ground (depending on which stage you're on). The object will
act as a normal weapon in your hands since you won't drop it. You will,
however, drop it when you get hit.

While the arcade version ran on Midway's extremely powerful proprietary
3D graphics hardware, known as Zeus, the home versions take advantage of each
of the target platforms' individual 3D graphics capabilities. All three
versions make use of dynamic light sourcing, so the projectiles, such as
fireballs, eluminate their path and the players.

Nintendo 64
The N64 version takes advantage of the hardware's anti-aliasing (it blends
pixels when an image is seen up close so as to prevent the "blocky effect")
Also, since it's stored on a 16MB cartridge (unlike MK Trilogy, which was on
a 12MB cartridge), ALL the sounds from the arcade version are included and
in high quality. Plus, the Rumble Pak is supported (so that you can feel
everything from the snap of a Fatality to an explosion in an Ending), as
well as the Controller Memory Pak (used to save controller configurations,
High Win Streaks, etc.)

Sony PlayStation
The PSX version takes advantage of the fact that it is stored on a CD-ROM,
which provides much more space than a cartridge or even the EPROM's that the
arcade game was stored on. It has used up a lot of this space by replacing
the real-time introduction and endings animations with pre-rendered full-
motion video (FMV) sequences. If you have no idea what this means, don't
worry about it, you'll notice the difference. Dual Shock is supported (as
its answer to the N64's Rumble Pak), as are the Memory Cards (used to save
controller configurations, High Win Streaks, etc.)

Windows 95 PC CD-ROM
The Win95 version supports Microsoft's DirectX API. For its 3D graphics
rendering, it supports both Microsoft Direct3D as well as 3Dfx's Glide (and
for those of you without a 3D graphics accellerator card, it also has a
software renderer, though it is recommended that you use Direct3D or Glide
to get the full experience). When you're using D3D or Glide, it will
actually look better than the N64 and PSX versions since it has larger
textures than the N64 version, but at same time has anti-aliasing which the
N64 is capable of but the PSX isn't. Any joysticks and controllers
supported by DirectX can obviously be used.

* Character Endings *
****************************************************************************

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Kai +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Raiden: You fought well, Kai. You are now a true Shaolin Warrior.
Kai: Thanks, Raiden. But I am not interested in becoming a Shaolin Warrior
anymore. I've got too many of my own problems to deal with.
Raiden: What will you do next?
Kai: I don't know... Wander the earth, search for my soul. That kind of
thing...
[Raiden gives Kai his Lightning Staff.]
Raiden: Well, perhaps you could use this on your journey.
Kai: Your Lightning Staff?
Raiden: It holds the power of Thunder and Lightning. Wield it wisely, for it
can show you the way to immortality.
Kai: Thank you, Raiden. I will not fail.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Raiden ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Elder God: Raiden, for many ages you have protected the Earth Realm from the
forces of evil. You have earned your place among us. Before your
dissention into the Patheon of Elder Gods, you must choose your sucessor
to protect your earth.
Raiden: With the aid of Earth's mortals, I have once again managed to defeat
Shinnok and his minions. I choose Fujin. He will guide the mortals of
earth as they move into the next millenium.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Shinnok +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[Raiden floats helplessly in the air as Shinnok stands beneath him.]
Shinnok: For millions of years, I suffered in the bowels of the Netherealm.
You, Thunder God, are responsible for my suffering. Now the piteous
mortals of Earth will pay for my grievance.
Raiden: You turned against your fellow Elder Gods. You betrayed your title.
You deserve much worse.
Shinnok: But it's too late, Raiden. I win! With the other elder gods out of
the way, I will take my rightful place as ruler of all eternity. I can
already feel the power surging from within!
Raiden: You're mad!
Shinnok: Farewell, Thunder God!
[Shinnok laughs at Raiden and raises his hands and uses lightning to cause
Raiden to explode.]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Liu Kang +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Liu Kang: The war is over. I once again defended my title as Champion of
Mortal Kombat, and defended the realm of earth. I have failed to save
the realm of Edenia. In doing so, I have also lost Kitana, forever...
[Portal opens and Kitana appears.]
Liu Kang: Kitana?
Kitana: Yes, Liu Kang. It is I.
Liu Kang: I thought you were gonna...
Kitana (interrupting): With Shinnok's destruction, you have not only saved
the earth, but you have saved my own realm. For that, I can never repay
you.
Liu Kang: Knowing you survived is all I need.
Kitana: As heir to the throne of my realm, I offer you the chance to rule at
my side, as King of Edenia, forever.
Liu Kang: I... cannot accept your offer. I belong here on earth as Champion
of Mortal Kombat.
Kitana: Then, I wish you good luck, Liu Kang... on all your journeys.
Liu Kang: Goodbye, Princess Kitana.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Reptile +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[Reptile kneels before Quan Chi.]
Reptile: Quan Chi... I have served the lord Shinnok well in the destruction
of Earth's Warriors...
Quan Chi: Yes, we are most appreciative of your efforts.
Reptile: Now I wish to return in time to my home world, before it was
destroyed in the hands of Shao Kahn. As the new ruler supreme of all
reality, Shinnok alone has the power to grant me this wish...
Quan Chi: How dare you make such an impetuous request of your lord and
master?!
Reptile: It is a simple request for one of such great power...
Quan Chi: It's also not worth his attention.
Reptile: I demand it! If it was not for warriors such as myself, his attack
against Raiden's forces would have failed.
Quan Chi: Perhaps you shall convey your feelings to Shinnok himself.
Reptile: WHAT?!
[Shinnok teleports onto the surface and holds Reptile up by the neck.]
Shinnok: Infidel! You are in no position to demand anything! I can kill you
with a mere thought!
Reptile: We had a DEAL!
Shinnok: A deal?! I am not a god of my word, Reptile! All deals are OFF!
[Shinnok causes Reptile to explode, pieces of him hit the camera.]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Scorpion +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Scorpion: I deafeated you, Sub-Zero. I have avenged the death of my family
and clan. Now my soul can finally rest...
Sub-Zero: Your soul will never rest, Scorpion. The Lin Kuei may have been
responsible for your murder, but your family's true killer still remains
free.
Scorpion: If you are not the murderer, then who is?
[Quan Chi appears.]
Quan Chi: I am the one you seek. To defeat my nemesis, Sub-Zero, I needed
the power of a specter. You've done my bidding well, Scorpion. But now
I must return you to the Netherealm.
[Quan Chi opens a portal into the Netherealm.]
Scorpion: NEVER!
[Scorpion takes Quan Chi with him.]
Quan Chi: NO!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jax +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[Sonya is standing with Jarek.]
Sonya: It's over, Jarek, Shinnok is dead. The good guys won. You're coming
back with me.
Jarek: Never, Sonya! I agreed to help defeat Shinnok, not turn myself in to
the Special Forces! The Black Dragon lives on!
[Jarek walks toward Sonya, she begins backing away from him.
WIDE SHOT AND CRESENDO: They are atop a high cliff with Sonya backed to the
edge.]
Sonya: The Black Dragon died with Kano. You're the last one, Jarek.
Jarek: NEVER!
[Jarek attacks Sonya. She dodges and Jarek falls over the cliff. Sonya
takes out her radio.]
Sonya: Come in, Major Briggs. This is Lt. Sonya Blade...
[Jarek is climbing up from the edge of the cliff, he grabs Sonya's leg and
tosses her over. Camera zooms up on the radio lying on the ground.]
Jax: Sonya?! This is Major Briggs! Come in... Sonya, this is Jax! Are you
there?
[Jarek steps on the radio, laughs, and begins to walk away from the scene.
Jax then appears in person.]
Jax: Going somewhere, Jarek?
[WIDE SHOT: Jax holds Jarek by his neck.]
Jarek: JAX! But I thought you were...
Jax: Thought I was what? Dead? Like my partner you just dropped off the
cliff?
[Jax walks toward the edge of the cliff. OVERHEAD SHOT: Jax holds Jarek
over the cliff.]
Jarek: I... I'm sorry, Jax! Wait! Don't drop me!
Jax: Wait?
Jarek: I promise...
Jax: Too late, Jarek!
Jarek: You can't drop me! You have to uphold the law! You have to arrest
me! Wait! Wait! This is BRUTALITY! You can't do it!
Jax: Wrong, Jarek. This is not a Brutality. This is a FATALITY!
[Jax releases Jarek over the cliff.]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Reiko ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[A portal opens, Reiko runs through it.]

NOTE: For a special bonus plot twist, watch the new Pre-Rendered Full-Motion
Video (FMV) version of this ending in the Sony PlayStation and Windows
95 PC CD-ROM versions of the game.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Cage +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[Johnny Cage walks up to a podium at an Awards ceremony. Crowd cheers.]
Cage: Wow! I don't know what to say! I guess I should start by thanking all
my fans out there!
[More cheering.]
Cage: But that's enough of the mushy stuff. I mean let's get real here, huh?
When am I gonna get some REAL competition?
[Silence.]
Cage: Come on, don't get silent now. Where are all the cheers?
[Crowd starts booing.]
Cage: Hey wait a minute! I'm your Number One guy!
[Crowd is Booing and starts throwing things at Cage.]
Someone in The Crowd: You SUCK!
Cage: I'm gonna remember this! Ow! Hey, Come on! Ow! I saw that, Arnold!
... Hey cut it out! ...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Jarek ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Are you
there?
[Jarek steps on the radio, laughs, and walks away from the scene.]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Tanya ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Tanya: Follow me, Liu Kang. Raiden has asked that I lead you to him.
Liu Kang: What about the others?
Tanya: He has something special planned for them.
[Liu Kang enters the Furnace room with Quan Chi and Shinnok, gate closes.]
Liu Kang: Tanya, what's going on?
Tanya: *laughs* I don't know what Kitana saw in you... Can't you see, Liu
Kang? This is a trap!
Liu Kang: What?!
Quan Chi: Welcome, Shaolin Warrior. Your thunder god is beaten, earth's
warriors destroyed. We obliterated the forces of light. Do you
wish to beg the mercy of your new master, the lord Shinnok?
Liu Kang: Never, sorcerer!
[Liu Kang performs a flying kick toward Shinnok but is blown up by him.]
Quan Chi: Fool. *laughs*

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Fujin ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[Fujin stands before the face of an elder god.]
Fujin: Our forces of light have defeated Shinnok. Now, I must return to my
duties as earth's God of Wind.
Elder: You have served your elders well, Fujin. But we have a new mission
for you.
[Raiden appears.]
Fujin: Raiden?
Raiden: Our battle with Shinnok's forces is over. I must move on to my new
position as an elder god. And you, Fujin, you must take my former
position as protector of Earth.
Fujin: Raiden, it will be my honor to succeed you.
Raiden: Take special care of the mortals of earth, they are a great people
but have the ability to self-destruct. Be patient, and offer your
wisdom as guidance.
Fujin: Farewell, Thunder God. I will not fail you.
Raiden: That is why I picked you.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sub-Zero +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sub-Zero: The battle is finished. Your quest for vengeance is over, Scorpion.
Scorpion: You cannot kill a dead man... You have defeated my physical form,
but my soul is eternal. You will pay for the massacre of my clan and
family.
[Quan Chi runs in behind Sub-Zero, and knocks him down.]
Quan Chi: Well done, Sub-Zero. Like your brother before you, you have served
my purposes well...
Sub-Zero: I serve no-one! Not the Lin Kuei, and not you!
[Quan steps on Sub-Zero's torso.]
Quan Chi: Scorpion agreed to fight for us, in exchange for freedom from the
Netherealm. A deal I had no intention of fulfilling. By killing him
you saved us the trouble, both you and Scorpion were pawns for Shinnok.
[Scorpion lifts Quan Chi.]
Quan Chi: SCORPION!!!
[Quan Chi explodes.]
Scorpion: Our battle is finished, you are now free from my curse. Live well,
Lin Kuei warrior.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Quan Chi +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

[Shinnok stands with Quan Chi.]
Shinnok: As payment for your loyal services, Quan Chi, I grant you the gift
of your existence.
Quan Chi: My existence?
Shinnok: Understand, sorcerer, I consume all energies, including the life
forces of all that live. But I shall spare you.
Quan Chi: If it weren't for me, you would still be a tortured soul rotting in
the pits of the Netherealm.
Shinnok: You dare question ME?!
Quan Chi: I do more than question you, Shinnok. I CHALLENGE YOU!
Shinnok: Then you shall DIE!
[Shinnok fires a projectile at Quan Chi, that hits him without making a
scratch.]
Shinnok: WHAT!?!
Quan Chi: Your powers are useless against me!
Shinnok: How can this be?!
[Quan Chi takes out the real amulet.]
Quan Chi: I am in possession of your royal sacred amulet. Years ago I
delivered to you an exact duplicate, while I retained the original. I
even fooled Raiden. Now, I am ruler supreme! And you, elder god, are
finished!
Shinnok: NO!!
[Quan Chi fires a projectile back at Shinnok, using the power of the real
amulet. It causes Shinnok to explode on contact.]

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sonya ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is Lt. Sonya Blade, over.
Jax: Sonya, glad to hear you're alive.
Sonya: You actually sound happy to hear from me, Jax. Things got boring?
Jax: Not since you followed Liu Kang into the Netherealm.
Sonya: Well it's over now, I'm returning to base. 10-4 Jax.
