Follow knock-downs with a sweep kick
Once you have an enemy knocked down, immediately run up to them and do a leg
sweep (Crouch + Kick). You'll hit them almost every time for a little more
damage. Don't get greedy, though --opponents will block more than one sweep.

This is also a good way to set yourself up for a Spinning Devil Kick or a Rising
Fury Punch, since you'll be crouching already.

Don't stand over fallen foes
It's fun to gloat, but don't do it while standing right next to an enemy that
you've just knocked over. Most foes will attack while getting up and score a
free
hit on you.

Learn to block/throw
One good tactic against lesser enemies like Strikers, Engineers, and Security
Guards is to stand and block their attacks until they try something that takes a
second to recover from. While they're winding down, throw their ass.

This tends to not work as well against higher level enemies, through, since
they'll either just throw you while you're blocking or hit you with an
unblockable attack.

Zig-zag towards Plasma Rifle fire
If an opponent has the Plasma Rifle, run towards him/her while zig-zaging from
right to left. They won't be able to hit you, and you can score a running throw
or a disarm on them to relieve them of the weapon.

Knock down and gun down
One quick way to get rid of an opponent is to grab the Black Adder SMG, then
sweep, slide, or running throw someone to knock them down, and then just open up
fire while they're lying hapless on the ground. Makes the SMG valuable, even
later on in the game.

Watch the flashes
When engaged in melee combat, you can pay attention to the color of the flashes
you make when contacting with an attack. Green means the enemy has a lot of
health left, yellow means he/she's more injured, and orange/red means almost
dead. Most enemies will also usually make some sort of unique sound when killed,
so you can be sure when they're not going to get back up (which can be important
when fighting multiple enemies).

Lure armed foes around corners
If someone has a weapon and you don't want to waste health trying to close the
gap between you and them, just get their attention and then duck around a
corner.
The enemy will probably give chase, and when they round the corner you can
disarm
them with relative ease.

Pick up fuller weapons
When you see a weapon on the ground, you can tell how much ammo it has left by
the number of red lights around it. If you're running on empty, grab a fallen
weapon to replenish your stores.

Hit them on the stairs
If you knock an opponent down while standing on stairs, move so that you're
lower
than them and start punching. From your lower position, you can punch them while
they're still lying on the ground, even landing the Triple Haymaker combo for
lots of damage.

Easy Backbreaker
To land a backbreaker or similar throw, wait for your foe to approach you but
hold your attack. Don't even block, simply roll to the side while he thrusts
forward and run to him. The momentum of his attack should push him forward and
give you an opening for one of those devastating behind the back moves. Be
careful, though --this might not be as successful on more difficult enemies or
against groups.
