1. About Sega Rally 2
---------------------

Sega Rally 2 was developed by Sega AM3, and relesed by Sega. The winning
formula of the original game has largely been left intact. The graphics
are wonderfully smooth and detailed, the only graphical drawback being
that the spectators look like cardboard cut-outs.

You can race in any of three modes, Championship, Practice, or Multiplayer.
Championship allows you to race against 15 CPU opponents over four tracks
in an attempt to come first. In Practice mode you select a track and race
around for three laps (note that the number of laps vary depending on your
machine's settings. Multiplayer allows you to play against a friend on
any one of the four tracks.

Sega Rally 2 is a brilliant game that deserves your attention, Sega have
created another stunning arcade racer!

Q&A
---
Q: Why did you do this FAQ?
A: Because I like Sega Rally 2, and give help to people who play it.

Q: What's the best car in the game
A: Depends what you mean by "best". If you're going for speed, the 306 Maxi
is best. If you're going for all-round performance, then the Lancia
Stratos is your first choice.

Q: Are there any secret cars?
A: Now that you mention it, there are! Remember the original Sega Rally's
two cars? Well, they become pickable when the machine you're playing
on has taken 100 credits, thirty days later, you can pick these two
cars, by holding the "View Change" button on the car selection screen.
The cars are; Toyota Celica GT-4, and the Lancia Delta Integrale 16V.

Q: Where can I find more info on Sega Rally 2?
A: Why not take a look at http://www.segarally.com, and see what you find,
there are probably lots of other fan sites too.

Q: For the love of all that is Sega-Rally-insert-coiny-and-deluxe-machiney,
will there be a Sega Rally 3?
A: I've heard from a reliable source, that yes, there will be another
Sega Rally game, no doubt it will be excellent, but I have no real info
on the game as yet.

Q: Can I contribute to this FAQ?
A: Yes! I'd be happy to post any USEFUL information that you have. You'd
be a big help! Just send it to my e-mail address, and call it
"Sega Rally 2 info".

2. About the Lancia Stratos
---------------------------

Car Overview

The Stratos is porobably (IMHO) the best car available in Sega Rally 2,
along with the Peugeot 306 Maxi of course. A couple of reasons as to what
makes it a good car:

The handling is easy and responsive, making it well capable of taking
the hardest of corners with consummate ease.

It's fast, great acceleration and blistering top speed make this a good
car to use if you want to set records on your local machine.

Car Specs

If you want to see the car specs you can either look below, or look at the
screen when you are choosing the car's transmission.

Drive: Rear Wheel
Length: 3710mm
Width: 1866mm
Wheelbase: 2180mm
Engine: DINO-V6DOHC 2418cc
Max Power: 280ps/7600rpm 4 valve
Max Torque: 27.5kg*m/6000rpm

Note
----

The reasons I didn't do a FAQ for the Peugeot 306 Maxi, despite it being
the best car in the game are:

1. There's already two brilliant ones
2. The 306 Maxi handles like an ice-cream van

---------------
3. General Tips
---------------

Transmission

The best (and fastest) transmission to use is Manual. It's the transmission
of choice if you want to go for a record time.

Starting

It should take you no more than five seconds to reach 4th gear. Don't put
pressure on the accelerator until "GO!". Below is a gear-time ratio.

1st gear: 0 seconds
2nd gear: 1 second
3rd gear: 2 seconds
4th gear: 3 1/2 seconds

Note
----

The number of seconds is the number of seconds after you've started the
stage

Powersliding

Powersliding means sliding around corners quickly, or powerfully ;).
Mastering powersliding will allow you to corners at greater speeds, a trait
that must be learned.

Braking

Tapping brakes is usually the best method of braking in Sega Rally 2. Gear
shifting is used too.

Handbraking

You only need to use the handbrake at hairpins.

Overtaking

Always overtake on the inside of a corner, try to do otherwise, and you
might not be able to do so. You're making it harder for yourself.

Over Steering

When you turn the steering wheel too far on a corner, you oversteer.

Counter Steering

When you oversteer, you need to counter steer to recover.

Types of Turns
--------------

Easy Left, Easy Right
The easiest type of turn in the game, no braking required, just a slight
turn of the wheel and you'll be around safely

Easy Left Maybe, Easy Right Maybe
This turn requires you to begin the turn earlier than you usually would,
you should get around without too much bither

Easy Left Opens, Easy Right Opens
This turn gets easier as you go, take it at full speeed, don't be a
chicken! Ends less tighter tham when it starts

Long Easy Left, Long Easy Right
Bascally, the same as the last one except, this time you have to hold the
whell in place longer

Medium Left, Medium Right
This type of corner usually requires no braking, but more care and
prescision is needed to negotiate it successfully

Medium Left Maybe, Medium Right Maybe
Same as for the Easy ones but slightly more demanding, tapping of brakes is
usually needed

Medium Left Opens, Medium Right Opens
Same as Easy, but again a bit more difficult

Long Medium Left, Long Medium Right
Will possibly require a tap of the brakes towards the end of the turn,
nothing serious though

Long K-Left, Long K-right, K-Right
Requires a downshift into third gear, do this and you should get around
safely. For the Long version downshift earlier

Tight Hairpin Right
Quite a difficult corner, you must pull the handbrake, and sometimes,
downshift into third gear too

Open Hairpin Left
Virtually the same as the Tight Hairpin Right, but slightly less demanding,
you still need to tug the handbrake, but no need to downshift to third

Note
----
In case you didn't know, when there are two names in the one heading, this
doesn't mean that they both come at the same time, it's the same turn for
two directions!

Miscellaneous
-------------
Water
There's some slippery wet water about, avoid this because it stops you
from accelerating

Crash Jump
This means there's a big bump in the road, not dangerous, but nice to go
over!

Crash Jump Water
The same as the last one, but water on both sides of the track

Over Bridge
Exactly what it says! You're about to drive over a bridge!

4. Desert Stage Guide
---------------------

Stage Overview

This is a very easy stage to race very well on. Not long after playing this
course for the first time, you should be lapping 58 second laps. The key
to getting fast times in this course is to strive for absolute perfection,
zero mistakes, and keep as near to full speed as possible at all times.

My Time: 57:10

Pointers
--------
*On this course stay in fourth gear the whole time

*Your speed should never drop below 142mph

*When taking corners, hug the walls as tightly as possible

*Times to go on grass:
1st left hand bend
1st right hand bend
Corner just Crash-Jump-Water
S-bend after checkpoint
Avoid grass at all other times.

*You can reach speeds of 155mph in this stage

*Avoid mud at all times, it'll stop you from accelerating

-----------------------
5. Mountain Stage Guide
-----------------------

Stage Overview

A little harder than the previous stage, but not esperatly difficult. You
should be getting 1:05 on this stage with ease after a couple of tries.
The corners a tighter than previously, watch out for them. The track is
narrow so it's not going to be too easy to overtake CPU opponents. This
track is quite demanding.

My Time: 1:02:01

Pointers
--------
*Stay in fourth gear all the time, even at haipins, except:
At the Long-K-Left, shift into third, and shortly back into fourth

*At the first hairpin, Tight-Hairpin-Right, use the handbrake, take it
wide, you will probably skim the grass if you want to keep in fourth gear.

*At the Medium-Right turn after the second bridge, you will need to tap
the brakes two or three times.

*At Open-Hairpin-Left, take it much the same as the first one, staying
wide, use the handbrake. Again, you'll probably board the grass a little
if you plan to stay in fourth gear.

*Don't be caught out by the last bend before the finish, if you take it too
late, you'll hit the wall. Instead take it early and you'll cross the line
smoothly.

--------------------
6. Snowy Stage Guide
--------------------

Stage Overview

This is the most difficult stage in the game. If you make a single mistake,
it'll cost you dear. Since it's so slippery can traction is at a minimum.
You won't get up to top speeds on this course, as a lot of it is long
corners. It'll take quite a bit of practice to get up to scratch here,
going below the minute mark isn't easy, although 1:02 is respectable.
Practice makes perfect!

My Time: 58:54

Pointers
--------
*Keep in fourth for most of this couse, except at Hairpin-Right

*Keep the front of your car on the inside of long corners

*Take corners earlier than usual, as the snow will make you slide wide

*At Tight-Hairpin-Right, stay wide, turn early, pull handbrake as you turn,
again, you need to down shift into third for a second

*Avoid getting your back tyre caught up the "kirbs", getting off them loses
you speed

----------------------
7. Riviera Stage Guide
----------------------

Stage Overview

This is the best looking course in the game, city streets, night time,
rally finale, it has it all. It isn't too hard either, which will be
welcomed from people who found the Snowy Stage difficult. You'll need to
watch out for the two hairpins though. There are two laps to complete,
seeing as the course is relatively short. The two laps make this the
longest stage to race. Anything under 1:10 is a good time.

My Time: 1:06:22

Pointers
--------
*At the Medium-Left, Medium-Right, and Medium-Right, Medium Left corners,
be careful, it's dark and you might not be able to see the wall proplerly

*Again, watch out for Tight-Hairpin-Right, the usual; stay wide, pull
handbrake while turning early, slip into third gear for a second, and
back to fourth

*Same thing for the last hairpin, but always try to make your co-driver
say "Outstanding!" instead of "Your doin' great!", or "Excellent!", it
makes you feel good!

*You may have the luxury of using a car the hit against, preventing you
from losing as much speed as you would if you hit a wall.

*This is the last stage, so you'd want to be fairly close to first place
before you start the stage!
