Madrigal

Where is the Ferryman to take the boat to Shadowguard?
There are two things you must do to get the Allis Ham, the ferryman, to appear
on
his boat. The order you do these is not important, but if either of them is not
done you will not be able to go to Shadowguard.
1) You must have gone to The Hex for the first time. When you go be sure to talk
to Malkuth about all the different things, because you need to get the quests
for
the heart, skull, and anvil from him.
2) You must have gotten the Anvil of Horath from the 7 King's Barrows.
Don Kirkland cleared up the confusion about Allis Ham's trigger. Thanks Don.
Where is the Madrigal sewer entrance?
Go to the town square and go south. The load screen will say Eastern River. As
soon as you appear start going left and stay against the wall (going north).
When
the wall makes a left turn (going west), rotate your view around until you see
the large black hole in the city wall going down. That is the sewer entrance.
How do I get past the locked door in the sewers?
There is no key the locked door in the Madrigal sewers. At a time much later in
the game an event will happen when you will need to go into the sewers. At this
time the door will open by itself.
What is the Faith Stone?
The Faith Stone is the rock pillar in the Madrigal Town Square. It is the
magical
doorway to Harbinger's legendary Hex.It is unlocked with the Staff of Lore,
which
Bishop Mortan posseses.
Where do I find the entrance to the Caverns?
The main entrance is in the North Woods not far from your uncle's house. Go to
the far northwest corner of this area near the castle. Now start walking south
along the edge. Before long you will see an entrance leading down into the side
of the hill. This is the entrance to the Caverns.
After I release the farmers they talk about a man with glowing eyes sniffing the
ground, who is he?
In the very beginning of the game you will see Barthelago and he tells you to go
to the inn, but if you go straight to your uncle's house instead you will see a
shadowy figure sniffing the ground. He will look up with glowing eyes then run
away into the caverns. If you go into your uncle's house there will be a note
saying your uncle will be back later that night, so you have to go back to the
inn. This creature is a Raal, which you will learn more about later in the game.
After I talk to Barthelago in the Madrigal sewers, where do I find him?
Leave the sewers the same way you came in, then go to the Madrigal town square.
Barthelago is standing by the Faith Stone.
Where do I find the dove's eggshells?
Enter the Western Moors from the Madrigal town square. Go straight ahead until
you come to the crossroads where the dove is. You will hear the dove cooing.
When
you get close to the dove it will fly away. When the dove flys away, you need to
chase it. Every time the dove lands and you get close to it, the dove will fly
away again. Just keep chasing it. Keep repeating this until you reach the closed
gate. The gate will be opened now if you get there immediately after the dove.
Enter. Inside there is a Hex Stone and behind it is an entrance to a tomb. Go
inside and the eggshells are in the hands of the statue.

Mines oustide of Madrigal

How do I kill the Hooded Man in the mine?
The Hooded Man in the mine is what's called a Raal. Early in the game you
probably won't be able to hurt him in combat. Use spells or scrolls to kill him,
but be sure to stay moving to avoid his spell attack and stay away from his
sword. You do not have to kill the Hooded Man, but he is near to an item you
will
need later. If you have already defeated Gargos in the 7 Burrows you can use the
Firesword's Flame Strike attack on the Hooded Man and kill him pretty easily. He
casts the spell Gas (you get it later on), which confuses you (can't move) and
does repeated damage. When you see him start to cast, start running so that his
spell misses. If you choose to fight him in combat be careful as he will still
stop attacking to cast Gas sometimes, then hack you up while you are confused
and
can't move. Piercing attacks hurt him the most, so try to use a stabbing type
attack with a sword or spear.
How do I release the farmers from the mine?
In the back of the mines towards the middle there is a stone pillar with red
energy spraying off of it. You will notice that there are railroad tracks
leading
right up to the pillar. Go back the the entrance of the mines. At the entrance
is
a mining cart. nearby is a set of two arrows. Go stand on the arrow pointing
away
from the entrance. The cart will start moving back into the mines. You can
follow
it if you want. The mining cart will eventually run into the stone pillar and a
cinematic will occur.

Temple of Shadows, Bishop Mortan, and Ravenscar

How do I kill Bishop Mortan?
No matter which of the ways I describe you chose, you should do this first. When
the skeletons go to attack you, run back out of the room into the hallway. You
can kill the skeletons out here without having to fight Bishop Mortan yet. When
you are done killing the skeletons you can leave the temple if you want, and
come
back for Mortan later.
When you are ready for Bishop Mortan, read on. You can kill him in combat, but
that is extremely difficult. If you choose to go that route use scrolls of
Shielding, Rage, and Haste. The easiest way to kill him is with magic. Bishop
Mortan is healed by spirit magic, but he takes triple damage from fire magic.
Elric sells some scrolls of Fireball, and if you can afford it you should buy
them all. They will do massive damage to the bishop. If you have a high Magic
attribute and can cast Firebolt, then you can kill him with those. There are
several mana potions in the rooms to the left and right immediately before the
Bishop's area. There is also another option. If you go to the 7 Burrows and
defeat Gargos (the first time), then you can use the Flame Strike of the
Firesword he drops. It is unlimited use and is the same as a Firebolt spell. The
key when fighting Bishop Mortan is to time your spells between his, and stay
moving. When you see him start to cast a spell run left and right, but make sure
you have a clear line of sight to him. With you moving his spell attack will hit
near you, but not hit you. Then as soon as his spell hits, stop and start your
spell. As soon your spell (or Flame Strike) is launched, start moving side to
side again. If you do this repeatedly and stay back away from the Bishop you
should be able to avoid all of his spell attacks, while beating him down with
yours.
Additionally, if you have destroyed Elsbeth's body in the Ravenscar sewers with
Firebolts, then Bishop Mortan will be weaker when you face him. He also will not
have two of his spells, Minor Heal, and Minor Shield.
Where do I get the key to unlock the northern pass in Ravenscar?
After breaking the spell over the farmers in the mines they will start to leave.
One of them will talk to you and give you a key. The farmer's key is the key to
the northern pass in Ravenscar. After unlocking the pass you can continue on to
the Path of Shadows.
How do I find Bishop Mortan?
Bishop Mortan is in an area of the temple you can get to only by teleporting.
There are two doors across from each other in one part of the temple. One is
locked and the other is not. Go into the room that is unlocked and move quickly
to avoid the trap. There is a zombie guarding a desk at the back of the room. On
the desk is the Scroll of Mortan, and the key to the room across the hall (go
there too). When you are ready to fight Bishop Mortan read the Scroll of Mortan.
When you read it blue sparks will fly off of you indicating that the teleporter
to bishop Mortan has been activated. Find the blue fountain in the threeway
junction. When you are standing in the blue fountain, read the scroll again. Now
the fountain changes colors and you are teleported to a new part of the Temple
of
Shadows. Bishop Mortan is at the end of the long open walkway.

7 King's Barrows

When I'm in the king's barrow, how do I use the trap with the pillars and symbol
on the floor?
When you first walk up to the symbol on the floor skeletons start appearing.
Quickly touch one of the stone pillars. This will stop more skeletons from
spawing, otherwise they just keep coming. After killing any skeletons, touch
each
one of the four pillars once (except the one you already touched, and be sure
not
to walk into the middle of it. All of the pillars should have red gas coming out
of them. Now touch each one of the pillars again until they all have blue gas
coming out of them. The center of the symbol on the floor is a trap. When the
gas
coming out of the pillars is red, it is a fire trap. When the gas coming out of
the pillars is blue, it is an ice trap. Gargos is healed by fire, but takes
double damage from ice. Be sure you have the trap set to blue for ice before
leading Gargos through it.

Lord Bane

Where do I find Lord Bane for the first time?
He and his Bloodkin troops are fighting for their lives at Tamaran's Pit in the
Eastern Fens by the Hex Stone. The Eastern Fens entrance is in the south area of
the Church Ruins, south of Shadowguard. When you go into the Eastern Fens go
left
and straight ahead. You will see a little land bridge going across the water.
Follow it and t takes you to another piece of land. You will be looking down on
a
pit with a Hex stone in it. That is Tamaran's Pit.

Lord Crux' Manor and the Hidden Temple

How do I get past the locked door in the Hidden Temple in Shadowguard?
Lord Crux has the key to the locked door. He drops it when you kill him in the
Manor.
The door to Lord Crux's manor is locked, where do I get the key?
There is no key to any door in Lord Crux's house. After you get the quest to
investigate Lord Crux's manor from Lord Bane, you meet up with Chant past the
second gate. Chant suggests wearing a guid identity ring, and when you walk up
to
the front door of the house the door is unlocked and the guards don't attack
you.
Once inside Chant tells you to look around. When you go in the room with Lord
Crux, Chant appears and a fight starts. You can run away from this room, but do
not leave the house yet. After you have killed Lord Crux and his minions Chant
tells you that you can look around some more if you want. When you leave the
house after killing Lord Crux the door is immediately locked and you can never
go
back in. If you don't do this quest and try to go to the house after killing
Lightstealer it will be locked, and you cannot ever get in. This does not ruin
the game, but you do mouse out on some things.
Where is the Hidden Temple in Shadowguard?
When you are in Shadowguard outside the entrance to the Church of the White Moon
there is a cemetery on one side, and on the other side a small ornate building.
This fancy little building has stairs and gates in the front, and is a crypt.
Walk around to the back between this crypt and the city wall. There is an
entrance here in the back of the crypt. This is the entrance to the Hidden
Temple.

Talendrah

Barthelago looks like he is dead laying here next to the well, what do I do?
Barthelago is not dead. You cannot talk to him again even though the icon
appears
over him. Just leave him laying there, and you will see him again later back in
Madrigal.

Tamaran's Gate

Where is Tamaran's Gate?
Tamaran's Gate is a circle of stones inside the Eastern Fens. It is a place that
looks like Stonehenge with a sarcophagus in the center. It vibrates with power,
so you will know when you find it. When you first enter the Eastern Fens stay to
the right, and walk all the way to the back, and you should see or hear it. In
the early part of the game nothing is there. Later in the game a Thardolin
Sorcoress is at the circle of stones summoning soldiers, and you must kill her.

Thardolin and the Admiral

Where do I find the Admiral?
The Admiral is below deck in the cabin of one of the two ships docked inside the
Thardolin city. He will give you a quest. If you have already done what he asks,
just leave the cabin and go back on deck of the ship. Now go back into the
cabin,
and the Admiral should recognize your quest as completed, and give you the next
one.
What do I do with the box the Admiral gives me?
Walk up to the gates with the two guards and a large cart. Stand between the two
guards and the cart, but closer to the cart. Switch to your inventory, drop the
box on the ground by dragging it to the drop icon. Now go back to the ships and
talk to the Admiral. A cinematic will occur. If nothing happens you may need to
pick the box back up again and drop it closer to the cart.

The Flute and Jaard's Well

How do I use the flute?
You need to buy the sheet of music from Delgar Dim, then right-click on it in
your invntory to "read" it. After you have looked at it those songs will appear
in the flute's list. Now go to Jaard's Well. If you have not alredy killed the
cultists, you don't have to. When they attack you, play the flute's song "Free
Spirits" while standing near the well. The cultists will stop their attack and
wander off. The cult leader will now attack you, and you will need to kill him.
After killing the cult leader you need to play the flute's song "Prelude in D"
or "Majesty". Either song will summon Chimera, one of the Revenants. He will be
weaker here than in the Palace, and if you summon and kill him at the well he
will not be with Incubah in the Palace. That makes the fight with her much
easier. The song "Desert Rain" will summon a swarm of locusts, but does not have
any other effect.
Where is Jaard's Well?
It is in the south part of the Oasis, which is south of Thardolin. The well has
a
giant star drawn around it, and there are some ruined columns in a square around
all of it. There are several cultists and a cult leader there.

Galdon Thor and the Ice Palace

How do I get to Galdon Thor?
When you kill Barthelago next to the Faith Stone (The Hex), he will drop a
scroll. Make sure you finish him properly since he is a Hex-Seeker. The scroll
he
drops is supposed to summon soldiers from Galdon Thor. If you read it next to
the
Faith Stone the spell will be reversed, and a gateway will open to Galdon Thor
that everyone can go through. As soon as you read the scroll by the Faith Stone
a
cinematic will start showing this.

Skorn

Where is Skorn?
There is a hallway leading to Skorn's throne room next to the Hex Stone when you
are in the Bad Hex. The first time you go in this room Skorn is there. He may
fight you, but he will try to leave. Hurt him if you can, but do not kill him
here in the Bad Hex, and do not block him from leaving (except to hit him a
couple times). If you have not staked any hex-seekers you will see them here in
the Bad Hex as Skorn tries to leave. You can fight the hex-seekers or oyu can
just follow Skorn through the teleporter he uses. If you do fight them you need
to go to the Palace of Souls afterwards, or you can just leave them there and go
on. When you get to the Palace of Souls you will see Skorn again and he will
attack you. He should leave the Palace of Souls when he gets hurt, and goes to
the Well of Souls.

Fay Lands

How do I get Melissa's key to her home in the Fay lands?
Talk to one one of the Guardians of the Well about Baradathlin, and you must do
this before giving him the coin. Then go to Madrigal and talk to Melissa the
fortuneteller. When you ask her about Baradathlin, she tells you about her home
and gives you two items. One is a key, and the other is a ring. If you wear the
ring while in the Fay lands only the palace guards will attack you. The key goes
to Melissa's house, which is right in front of the Hex Stone in the Fay lands.
Inside her house is the Book of Manipulations.
How do I get the Fay Queen to release me?
You have three choices. The first choice is that you can just leave if you want
to. All you have to do is make your way back to the Hex stone and teleport away.
The second option is to go find crystal eggs to give to the queen. You will get
a
little bit of experience for each of the "good" eggs you give her. Then when you
give her the "bad" egg she gets angry and throws you out. The third option is to
fight the queen's champion. The Fay Champion is a tough opponent, but she yields
a couple of nice items when slain. Once you kill the champion and her guards the
queen will teleport you away if you talk to her again. This gives you lots of
experience, some good items, and a convenient method of leaving.

Infernal Mines

How do I do the quest to get 100 pieces of ore for Asmodeus?
Asmodeus has given you an impossible quest to do for his own amusement. There
are
not 100 pieces of ore in the mines to get. You can kill him if you would like.
How do I get the key for Farangis?
If you explore the Infernal Mines you will come across a whitish stone bridge.
Up
on the bridge at the back is a Chained Monster. If you talk to him he will tell
you that he can make anything, and to bring him a piece of ore. When you give
him
a diamond-iron ingot he will give you a key. Take this key back to the area
where
Farangis is and use it to unlock the giant gates. Farangis will give you his
coin
to show his appreciation.

Garden of Lost Souls

Where are Dragor's brothers?
His brothers are the vampires wandering around the Garden of Lost Souls.
How do I kill Necronom and free Dragor's brothers?
Go inside Necronom's crypt where he is. There is a sybol on the floor in the
middle of the room with eight statues in a circle. You need to light the hands
of
each statue. You can do this with either a Firebolt or Fireball spell, and it
may
be easy to light them by aiming at the feet of the statue instead of it's hands.
When all eight statues are lit, Dragor's brothers are freed and Necronom becomes
mortal. Kill him and return to Dragor for his coin. If you have the Ghost Cloak
from earlier in the game you can wear it to reduce the damage from Necronom's
spirit knives spell.

Palace of Souls

How do I get to the Well of Souls?
To get to the Well of Souls you must summon the Keeper of the Well, and the
dragon must be in danger. To summon the Keeper of the Well requires that you
activate four symbols. Each symbol is in a walled off room in each of the four
corners of the Palace of Souls. There is a Guardian of the Well near the locked
door to each of these rooms. Each guardian will give you a quest to get a coin
for him, and when you return with the coin he asked for, the door to the room he
is guarding will open. Then go inside and stand on the symbol. It will activate
one of the four fountains in the middle of the Palace of Souls. When you have
activated all four symbols the Keeper of the Well will appear. Talk to him, and
if you have already fought Skorn he will tell you that you can pass to the Well
of Souls. Step into one of the fountains and you are transported to the Well of
Souls for your final battle against Skorn. If the Keeper of the Well tells you
that you cannot pass because the dragon is in danger, then you have not fought
Skorn yet, and need to go find him in the Bad Hex.

Miscellaneous

How do I kill a Hex-Seeker?
A Hex-Seeker is not really dead even after you have killed it in combat. You
must
have a hex-stake in your inventory. You can get two of these from Malkuth at the
Hex. Just ask im for items, and he already has the two hex stakes. Cast the
spell
Death's Recollection and target the body of the Hex-Seeker. You will be able to
talk to the spirit of the dead Hex-Seeker, and when you are done talking and
click LEAVE your character will automatically use a hex-stake if you have one.
You will see energy pour out of the Hex-Seeker's body and hear a scream, then
you
will get some experience. If you do not have a hex stake and you cast the spell,
talk to the spirit, and click LEAVE you will be seeing this hex-seeker again
much
later in the game. They will be a lot tougher too.
What is the spell Death's Recollection for?
There are certain times in the game when you must use this spell to talk to the
spirit of someone you have just killed. Their spirit will often give you
valuable
information, but be sure to ask them everything you want to before clicking
LEAVE. Usually the spirit "goes to the well" after you are done talking and you
will not be able to talk the the spirit again. There are also times when you
will
not have completed a quest until you use Death's Recollection on the corpse of
someone. You will also usually get experience for using it on someone you are
supposed to. This spell has no effect on most people, soldiers, undead, and
creatures that you will face in the game. Use it on anyone you kill or who has
just died that seems important to the story (like Bishop Mortan), and it must be
used on Hex-Seekers to kill them.
Where do I find the Alchemist's Skull?
The skull is in the mines outside of Madrigal. In the far back corner of the
mines is a Hooded Man (Raal). You should kill him first. You will notice that
there is a wooden wall that is locked in this back corner. You will also notice
that there are railroad tracks going to the wall and away from it. Follow the
tracks and you will come to another locked wooden wall. When you killed the
Slave-
Master in these mines he dropped a key. Use the Slave-Master's key to unlock
this
wall. Inside is a mining cart. Go stand on the arrow next to the tracks that
points out of this room. The mining cart will start moving, and will go follow
the tracks to the wooden wall where you first found the Hooded Man. There is a
short cinematic as the mining cart breaks through the wooden wall. Now you can
get in this room. Inside is a Rock Beast and the Skull of Alchemy is on the
floor.
Where do I find the Anvil of Horath?
It is in the king's burrow in the land of the 7 Burrows. When you go inside the
burrow there is a four-way intersection ahead. Go left or right to get the
anvil.
You will be on a balcony of a lake of lava that has an island in the middle.
Walk
around this stone balcony until you come to a fountain. It will teleport you to
the island. The Anvil of Horath is on one of the four arms of this cross shaped
island (it is obvious). Be prepared for some fighting before you pick up the
anvil.
With Barthelago gone or dead, and Candice gone from Shadowguard, where do I buy
potions?
There are several foreign merchants in Madrigal after Barthelago leaves. These
merchants wander around , and one of them sells potions. There are also foreign
merchants in Thardolin, and one of these sells potions.

Magic

How do I use books and runes?
Early in the game you cannot use the books and runes you gather. After killing
Bishop Mortan and taking his staff back to Madrigal you will "discover" The Hex.
You don't have to do anything special, it just happens. Inside The Hex you have
a
library that is maintained by the spirit of Jaard. Except for the Book of Dreams
you learn at Andrus' house, all books in the game are opened in the library of
The Hex. If you are early in the game and have not discovered The Hex yet, don't
worry. It happens as a natural part of the story if you keep playing.
I'm 11th level, why don't I have the 11th level spell?
The spell level refers to your Magic skill, not your character's level. You will
not be able to use a spell until your Magic skill is equal or above the spell
level. For example, to use Firebolt, which is a 12th level spell, your Magic
skill must be 12 or higher. If you put all of your advancement points in the
Magic skill at 2nd level, you would have a Magic skill of 15 and would be able
to
cast this 12th level spell. If you do not put points into your Magic skill you
will never be able to use high level spells.
Why does nothing happen when I touch this stone pillar with the runes on it?
Most of these are Hex Stones, although there are some pillars in the game that
look kind of like Hex Stones, but don't do anything. You cannot use the Hex
Stones until you have discovered The Hex itself. After that, all Hex Stones will
do what they are supposed to. After you have discovered The Hex be sure to go
back and touch any Hex Stones you have already found.
Where is the Rune of Trinkets?
Go to High Rock pass. Now walk into Ravenscar from High Rock Pass. Keep walking
straight ahead towards the Temple of Shadows until you come to the center of the
ruined city. There is a circlular path with a big stone pillar in the center,
and
it is partially fenced in. You cannot interact with the pillar, but if you walk
around it in circles very close you will see something shining from about
halfway
up the pillar. That is the Rune of Trinkets stuck halfway up the pillar, and you
just click on it to get it.

Game System and Interface Questions

I've been somewhere and used the Hex Stone there, why can't I see it on the map
to go back?
When you touch a Hex Stone a map comes up. From here you can click on any Hex
Stone on the map and be instantly teleported there. This whole map is bigger
than
the screen and will scroll if you click and drag it. Click witht he left mouse
button, hold it down, and drag the mouse to move the map. You will be able to
see
parts of the map you couldn't see before. Talendrah is down below the edge of
the
screen, and you can't see it unless you drag the map up.

I can't see all of the quests in my journal, how do I get to the other pages?
There are little moons on the top and bottom of the right side of the Journal.
These are scroll bars, and clicking them will move the page up and down. There
is
only that one page, don't let the bookmarks fool you.
