LEVEL 1 MONSTERS FAQ
BY KARL JOBST
VERSION 1.0
4/23/00

I just thought I'd type up a quick FAQ that I could finish I one hour. This
FAQ will just guide you through the monsters you will find on level one of the
Maelstrom. Anyway, enjoy. I will write a guide for level 2 and 3 and so on.

If you know of a monster that walks around on level 1, and I don't feature it
in this FAQ, feel free to send it to me at faq_god@hotmail.com. I'll be
waiting.

Oh, one more thing. This FAQ is copyright © 2000 Karl Jobst. This means you
cannot do anything to this FAQ without permission from me, the author.

REVISION HISTORY

1.0 (4/22/00)

First release, and the most crappy. I am hoping sometime to add the NPC
of the first level. These include The Laughing Kettle, and the high priest of
the brotherhood. I forget his name.

DA MONSTERS

Ok, I'll list the monsters from the easiest to hardest in my opinion. So, if
you're looking for the harder monsters, look to the bottom of the list.

GREEN SLIMES OR SLIMES
-------------------------

Hit Points: 1-3

These guys are a piece of piss to defeat. Even for level 1 fighters they are a
breeze. They don't hit very often, but when they do they only take off 1-2 hit
points. They have no immunity to any spells, and they do not have the ability
to cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CREEPY THINGS OR LADY STINGERS
---------------------------------

Hit Points: 2-4

These monsters are slightly harder than Green Slimes. They are fairly easy to
hit, but may provide some trouble for level 1 fighters. If they hit they
inflict 1-2 hit points of damage. They have no immunity to spells and they
can't cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BLACKFLIES, BLACK BATS OR FLYING CREATURES
---------------------------------------------

Hit Points: 2-4

These monsters come in groups of five. They are fairly easy to kill, but level
1 and 2 fighters may have trouble connecting. They don't hit a lot, and they
inflict 1-2 hit points of damage. Because they fly, they can hit any person in
the group, so watch out for level 1 and 2 mages. They have no immunity to
spells, and they can not cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LEECH LIZARDS OR REPTILES
----------------------------

Hit Points: 2-4

These monsters can be quite hard for level 1 and 2 fighters. They are hard to
hit, and they hit much more than Slimes and Creepy Things. If they hit they
inflict around 2 hit points of damage. If your group is all level 1, I suggest
running if you are faced with tow groups of these. They have no immunity to
spells, and they can't cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NETHER MEN OR MASKED FIGURES
-------------------------------

Hit Points: 3-6

Now we move into the next generation of monsters. These monsters are a lot
harder than Reptiles. They are generally hard to hit for low level characters,
but are a breeze for fighters over level 5. If they hit they inflict around 2-
5 hit points. They have no immunity to spells, and they can't cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TROLLS OR HUMANOIDS
----------------------

Hit Points: 4-6

Trolls are slightly harder than Nether men. They aren't that hard to hit, but
may be a problem for levels 1,2 and maybe 3. They hit occasionally, and they
inflict 3-5 hit points of damage. They have no immunity to spells, and they
cannot cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BANDITS OR MASKED MEN
------------------------

Hit Points: 5-10

Bandits aren't much for fighters. They aren't very good at combat, but they
have the ability to steal things from your characters. They can either steal
gold, or an unequipped item. However, there is not much chance that they will
successfully steal something. If they hit, they inflict around 3-4 hit points
of damage. They are usually easy to hit, and rarely provide a challenge. They
have no immunity to spells, and they cannot cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UNDEAD WARRIORS OR SKELETONS
-------------------------------

Hit Points: 5-10

Skeletons are much harder than the other monsters. They hit much more often,
and inflict 2-5 hit points of damage. They aren't too hard to hit, but they
provide a challenge for fighters under level 5. They have no immunity to
spells, and they cannot cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMPHIBIANS OR FANGED TOADS
-----------------------------

Hit Points: 1-4

These monsters may be easy to kill, but they are very dangerous. If they hit
you, they will most probably poison you. They are found somewhat a fair
distance from the castle, so if you are of a low level and you get poisoned,
you might possibly die. They are pretty easy to hit, and don't have much life.
They have no immunity to spells, and they cannot cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MAGICIANS OR MEN IN ROBES
----------------------------

Hit Points: 5-7

Now we get to a new breed of monsters. These monsters have the ability to cast
level 1 mage spells. The harmful spells they can cast are Halito and Katino.
Both these spells can really cause problems to low level characters. They
don't prefer to fight, but if they hit they inflict around 2-4 hit points of
damage. They don't appear to any immunity to any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ACOLYTES OR MEN OF THE CLOTH
-------------------------------

Hit Points: 7-13

These monsters are the opposite of Magicians. They also have the ability to
cast spells, but they cast low level priest spells. The only spell you should
watch out for is Badios. They are better at combat than Magicians, and will
hit for 3-5 hit points of damage. They don't have any immunity to spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WEREBAT
----------

Hit Points: 12-17

This monster is found at the statue, in the Temple of Brotherhood. It is a
relative of the flying creature species. It can be quiet hard to hit for level
5 or under fighters, and can post some problems for slightly higher fighters.
If it hits a member of your party, they will most likely be poisoned. It isn't
close to the castle, so make sure that you either have a Latumofis potion, or
you're priest can cast Latumofis. It has no immunity to spells, and cannot
cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GHOSTLY FIGURES OR ICE PHANTOMS
----------------------------------

Hit Points: 8-12

These monsters can be very hard to fight with low level fighters. They are
hard to hit, and usually don't die on the first hit(unless the fighter is of a
high level). If they hit a member of your party, they will most likely be
paralysed. It can also resist spells cast by low level mages, priests, and
bishops. But, as you reach levels above 25, the resistance wears off. They
can't cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HELL HOUNDS OR WEREWOLVES
----------------------------

Hit Points: 15-20

These monsters are much harder than most other monsters on level 1. They have
much more hit points, and they are tougher. They have damaging breath. If they
breath, you whole party will be inflicting around 1-8 hit points each. If they
hit you, there is a chance you will be poisoned. These monsters can only be
found in the area behind the statue, in the Temple of Brotherhood. They have
no apparent immunity to spells. They cannot cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GOLEM OR LIVING ROCK
-----------------------

Hit Points: 30-40

This is the hardest monster on level one. It can only be found in a secret
area in the Temple of Brotherhood. It has stacks of hit points, and is
extremely difficult to hit. If it his one of the members of your party, they
can be expecting a whopping 20-35 hit points of damage. These monsters are not
to be messed with if you have low level members in your party. They can also
resist spells. They can resist most spells cast by low level spell casters,
but as the level of the spell caster grows, there is a less chance that this
monster will resist any spell cast upon it. They cannot cast any spells
themselves.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ARMOUR EATERS
----------------

Hit Points: Approx. 20-30

These monsters are slightly easier than Golems. They are easier to hit, and
don't carry as much hit points. If they hit you, there is a good chance that
their saliva will eat away your armour, so watch out. They might have some
immunity to low level spells, I am not quite sure, I will tell you soon
though. They cannot cast any spells.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are all of the monsters I can find on level one. Sometime in the near
future, I will add experience points, and some tactics to defeat each monster.
I will also add the NPC you will encounter on level 1, and I will give you
tips to defeat them.

Well, I didn't get any of this information from anywhere else. Either on the
Internet, or from another source. Anyway, this is the first FAQ for
Wizardry V. There is no way I could've copied another FAQ.

I thanks Ian Rogers, who without, I would have never started to write FAQs.

I thanks me.

And, that about sums it up. So I will go now.
